Is depression about not having any positive emotions all the time ?

Mablue August 28th, 2017

Good evening everyone (it's night time in my timezone).

I've been having depression symptoms for quite a while now: feeling tired and anxious as well as having negative emotions and having my positive ones being "euthaniazed" (don't know if it's really clear). To prevent anxious thoughts, I keep distracting myself, resulting in being stressed about turning off the computer.

But today I did feel a little lighter and energic, and I had some laughs with my father and brother. Seeing this, my mother came to me telling me if I'm still depressed, since I'm a little more merry today. And I don't know. I still have the same symptoms, just that I wanted to talk with my family a bit more. Is my depression going away or am I still depressed ? I'll be seeing a doctor tomorrow morning and I'm scared that I asked for a help I maybe don't need and caused everyone troubles for nothing.

What do you think about it ? Any answer will be welcomed.

Have a nice day/evening !

Depression doesn't neccessary mean you'll never laugh or smile or having any positive emotions whatsoever, it can also be manifested in the form of loosing interest in stuffs that once interests you, so it's best to have an opinion from a licensed practitioner, I'm glad you're seing a doctor soon!

Depression isn't always sadness verus happiness. It means a lot more than just that. It can also mean lack of interst, non supportive of yourself, and so much more.

@Mablue

Hi, depression does not mean that you are not going to experience positive emotions. It differs for people but its more so losing interest and eating and sleeping more than usual. Its like detaching from everyone and just staying in your room all the time. HOWEVER, none of us are doctors so im happy you're getting professional help soon which I hope helps you learn more about depression.
