Can you live as if the past never happened? I feel like I live in the past too much and it’s triggers my depression. Any advice or insight?

Hey, thanks for voicing out your concerns. I really appreciate the courage it took you to open up in a public forum. Honestly, I'm not sure if ee can live as if the past never happened because who we are right now is a culmination of how we reacted to the situations we went through. And optimistically speaking, maybe one day we will be able to join the dots and understand why what happened the way it did..? Nonetheless, believe me a lot if us do that, and yes, as you said it can be very triggering. Seeking professional help is advisable depending on the severity of the problem. But apart from that writing down your thoughts should help you from going in circles in your head. In one book, I had read that writing or venting out your frustration by actually having an argument might be cathartic, if you didn't have closure. But again I cannot assure you of it's merit. So use that suggest at your own discretion. Mostly, if we are going to the past it's because of some underlying reason. Having a third person who you trust and can be supportive as well as non judgemental might be helpful in exploring those areas and come to terms with them. Listeners at 7 cups might be helpful here too. At the end, I believe it's about forgiving yourself and others regarding what happened, as well as being patient with yourself. Because wounds take time to heal. And know that failure in moving on during the first few attempts doesn't mean you can't or will never be able to move on. Learning to be compassionate to yourself is key in dealing with sensitive matters. Treat yourself humanely.
