This year will be my first Christmas alone, my life drastically changed over 12 months, because I sit locked in thoughts most of the time trying to, I don't know, understand? Find a way through, learn to cope, I'm a long way off, but I am already fearful,of the festive holidays, the tidlewave of emotions I'm expecting so I made a choice, to volunteer at the soup kitchen, and visit the elderly in the evening, hoping this will distract me from my thoughts, and give me a reason for this day

i hope I can stick to my plan.

what other plans distract you from the festive period ? What do other people do?

@Huggingarms Christmas is such a hard time for so many people and I hear how you find this so very difficult. I think the fact you have offered to volunteer to help others is such an amazing thing to do if you go through with this being your plan. I think knowing you have done a little to help others can help you feel a little better about yourself too. I loved volunteering for homeless organisations who cooked xmas dinner for those spending xmas on their own. It was such an amazing atmosphere and contrary to believe a happy one and a supportive one. The only other thing I did many years ago was visit a cancer ward for young people where they were throwing a party for the kids, and that too was so full of laughter and joy. Good luck whatever you plan to do :)

I have visited this church a few times, I am not a religious person, but somehow felt peace I can't explain what I felt but it was nice. It is the church who provide lunch for the homeless, they open the doors to hot food once a week, I helped once, messed it up, but I met some nice people in bad situations. I done a proactive move today, visited the church and signed up for Christmas Day, not to cook but serve, I wouldn't subject anyone to my cooking, I'd be sued!! But I am hoping being there will help me and them, I don't know, it won't hurt will it? Sitting here will be more harmful. The care home, I visited once, I read to a man who fell asleep, I bored him lol, I don't read that well but that didn't matter. Thank you, you reply to my posts, I didn't expect anyone to, it's helping my confidence.@dancingRainbow45

@Huggingarms I'm pleased to hear that perhaps chatting in the forums like this is helping you feel a little confident. Its a big move to sign up to serve on xmas day and a massive goal you have already accomplished just by getting your name down. Your should give yourself some credit or a pat on the back for having done that :) You thought about it and you did it!!! :) Am sure whether you cook or serve your company will be appreciated by those attending for lunch on that day. And I really hope it does help you to get some distraction from things.
