Society Sucks

I don't know if it's just me, but I am tired of hearing the same things: you will get better, this is only a moment in your life that you're struggling, think positively, blah blah. What I hate most is when people tell me: "that's just life". I don't want to believe my problems are "just life". Anyone can say that. I just want to see a real change in my life. I am tired of living in a cycle: wake up, go to school, run, homework, and do it again. It's just frustrating. I can't live like this. I just feel it's everyones fault. If no one would judge people, I wouldn't be so self concious. If social media, pretty skinny girls, and more didn't exsist I wouldn't have gotten an eating disorder months back. If people would actually try to make life exciting, I would wake up with a smile. If there wasn't so much pressure, I wouldn't have anxiety. If there wasn't so many competitive people I wouldn't feel worthless. I hate seeing people. I am just so done. I don't hate people. I do like some people but society in general, I blame for the way I am. I hate them. I hate society. So tired of everything! I want some real friends. I want to be skinner. I want to be able to shop for clothes without crying in the dressing room. I want to love myself. I want to feel worthy. I want to feel alive. Trust me, I've tried millions of times to turn my thoughts around and push through but sometimes it's so overwhelming. If only I were an adult to live life the way I wanted to...but even then, I don't think I could trust my mind. I just know I have so much potential but my mind is the biggest enemy in my life. It overcomes me almost everytime. I just want to be happy. That's literally all I want at this point but that seems so far out of my reach.

It sounds to me like you're placing a lot of blame for your overall unhappiness on the world around you, rather than looking inward at what YOU can change about your life and YOUR perspective. And the end of the day, it really doesn't matter what other people think about us, we have to live for ourselves and for what we want. Everyone has problems and most of the time we only see a very small, curated part of someone else's life - the pretty stuff they're willing to share publicly. But most people are not as happy or as fulfilled as they pretend to be.

If you want your life to be exciting, then do something exciting. Set goals and make plans for your future. If you want to feel better about your body image, start following more body positive role models and block the ones that make you feel shamed. If you don't want to feel pressured, then don't worry about what competitive people prioritize and simply focus on being you.

It's definitely easier said than done, I won't deny that for a minute. But change starts with each one of us and the work we put into changing out perspectives and eventually, our lives. It probably feels hopeless right now and that you'll never get out of the cycle you're stuck in, but you will IF you are willing to do the work to get yourself out of it.

Society sucks. But you don't have to.

@michaela87

Thanks for the advice but I don't think it will help me. I've set goals but when I accomplish them, I don't feel them to be an accomplishment. Besides, I'm a perfectionist so I think more goals will just make feel even more depressed. Some of your advice I can use, however.

Thanks anyways.

i feel you! If it were possible, we would have done it already! That applies to every bit of advice youve probably heard. I struggle with similar thoughts and its hard to reconcile our disappointment with people and society along with our own struggles. So many of our feelings are in conflict with one another. ‘I dislike people, but Im terribly lonely?! What do you do with that?! How can you articulate that? I dont have the answer, but know you are not alone in that feeling. I hope knowing others feel the same can give you a little comfort.

You're right. The system is broken. If people weren't so judgmental, things would be better. Unfortunately, this is the reality we live in. There's not a lot that we can do about it, but focus on ourselves. Tune everything out. It's not easy but there's not a lot of options.

@randomp3rson Your posting caught my attention and yes, society does suck but if you realize things, society has a very unrealistic view of how everyone should look and behave. It sounds like the culture is getting to you but it also sounds like you are letting what other people think to get to you and you can't do that.

Have you tried using positive affirmations and mantras.

"I am good enough," "I am more than good enough."

If you want more check out "The Honest Guys" as they have lots of examples of how to do positive affirmations
