START A GRATITUDE JOURNAL

happyrainbow93 February 24th, 2018

Hello guys! So I was doing the depression guideline that 7 cups offer for listeners and members (If you are interested this is the link:https://www.7cups.com/depression-help-online/ ) and it mentioned the benefits of starting a gratitude journal. When we are depressed we tend to think in a negative way. Therefore, having a gratitude journal forces our mind to focus on the positive things. I guess it will be harder at the beginning since we have to make a huge switch to our focus but it is a start. We can start with basic things such as a house, food, 7 cups, a dog, eyes, etc...

Look at this video :) I think I will start tonight

Also it's important to note this isn't some magic solution to make you happy but can help give you some perspective which in turn may help your mood. Unlikely to do any harm that's for sure!

It is alright. We all have different ideas. Just sharing some knowledge to help each other. Hopefully, some other people will like this exercise and can improve their mood in some way. That was my aim :) @pessimisthater

@happyrainbow93

I am glad you see value in practising gratitude and keeping a journal. Showing gratitude is a very positive way to remind us of what we have - like our lives, air to breathe, may be the smile we got from another person or what you experience every day what was helpful.

@happyrainbow93

hi there and thanks for the link. i agree totally, we need to practise more on seeing the good things, our autopilot seems to focus on the bad ones unless we rewire it. thanks.

I think maybe I'll try this. It might not make me feel any better but focusing on the positives can't hurt :)

Thats a great idea :) When we are depressed we tend to think in the negative so much that those connections get stronger every day in our brain and then they start to be automatic, like when you learn how to drive and then you just do it in an automatic way, without realising that it is happening. That's why it is so hard to start thinking again in a positive way because basically, it is about breaking that pattern that it is now so strong in our brain. However, the good thing is that it is possible :) I hope with time you can feel a little bit better at least :) All the best @stuckintime92

@happyrainbow93 I completly understand why people think this helps, or maybe it does help for some people, but sometimes i cant find much to be grateful for aside from my family and health.
