Hunger
I was wondering how depression affects eating habits and hunger. I was eating pretty normally, maybe a bit too much. My depressive feelings and symptoms caused me to eat less than I should (1,000 calories maximum per day) and this went on for around 2 weeks (I would eat a lot on weekends though....). Then I went back to how I was before bc my mom was suspicious of me and I was bored and missed food. When I was eating not enough, I wasn't really very hungry. Now, I'm hungry all the time no matter how much I eat. I don't weigh myself much out of fear that it'll trigger me into not eating again so idk if I've lost or gained weight. I know I didn't lose weight over the two weeks I wasn't eating much. I'm worried that my depression symptoms might be because of an underlying medical condition, thyroid specifically. I'm very anxious about my health, so I'm very scared right now. I can't go to a doctor bc my parents haven't been a part of my therapy and such.
@ChristmasTreesInTheMoonlight Hi, depression, anxiety etc can all affect a person's appetite and its quite common for those who are suffering with depression to under or overeat, and to either lose or gain a sense of hunger. Depression comes in many forms and guises and how one person is affected, may be different for someone else. You may find the following links useful which discuss how depression can affect appetite. Though it may be hard to do when your feeling low, its important to nourish yourself, as lack of eating can affect how someone feels and thinks and can add to problems you may already be experiencing. Remember too theres people here who are always willing to talk to you. It sounds as though your health is causing you worry and anxiety but your reluctant to speak to a doctor about your concerns. A doctor would always be a good port of call for anyone who is worried about their health, whether physical or emotional wellbeing

@dancingRainbow45 thank you. And I would love to see a doctor, but my parents refused to believe anything was wrong with me when I asked for help the first time (from my doctor). I am seeing a therapist at school on my own, so I can't tell my parents about all this and see a doctor. I do have yearly check ups, next one in February, so at least I could get checked out then. Last year my doctor had some concerns of a thyroid issue but not enough to do any tests
@ChristmasTreesInTheMoonlight Its good to hear that you have a therapist who is supporting you at the moment if going to your doctor is difficult for you. You said you have regular checkups and that the last time you went to see your doctor they had concerns with regards your thyroid. Is it possible at your next health check you could speak to your doctor about having this checked out/followed up? Are you able to feel comfortable speaking to your therapist about what is going on for you presently in relation to how you've been feeling and how this has affected your appetite/eating habits?
