"How did you overcome your depression?"

I hit rock bottom. Like anyone else who's had problems, I felt down. As if someone has shot a bullet to my chest and that's when I wanted to take my own life away. I started to numb the pain with music until I finally fought back. 2 years after being severely depressed, I started going out alone. I didn't need anyone. I went to concerts, malls, parks. I met all sorts of people there. People who had no one to go with. And that's when it started catching up to me, do I really need anyone to depend on if I can just make myself happy? I mean I'm the only one who knows how to make myself happy so why not start from now instead of using all the drugs/alcohol in the world to numb the pain. And so I learned to be powerful. Because if you truly want something, you go after it and never stop until you've had enough of it. I wanted happiness. And I never wanted to feel depressed anymore. As a matter of fact, here I am 3 years later and I'm happy to say that I've challenged myself again. I went to a concert all by myself even though half my friends were there. I got lost in the crowd and I let the music find me. I had one of the greatest nights ever, all thanks to the change of mindset that I've had throughout time. I hope this helps anyone who's struggling to overcome their depression.

Hey

So actually I wasn't able to overcome depression without professional help. However, I ate anti-depressive pills for a year and also few other pills because of being bipolar and stuff. Talking with psychologist and trusting some people helped a lot. Progress wasn't able to see in first few weeks, but in like half year.

I'm able to talk with anyone who needs support or help about this. It's hard to get over depression and it can take us all over quick :)

@EquestrianProgress

My wish here is that no one has to wait until mid-life before getting help, both mutual support and prof help.

After first attempt at 14 and being blamed by my family, I didn't know meds and therapy could help. Crashed in late 40s. Even then it took many hospital stays, docs, ECT, CBT, DBT, therapists... Til I found one who diagnosed me correctly Bipolar 1 and DID. (On DID aka MPD, it took me a year to agree. So please let's not argue about its existence). Life isn't easy for me but I'm still here 14 yrs after big crash.

Bottom line - Please seek help, keep talking here, try over and over again.

It is never too early to start. And it is never too late to start.

I'm sorry to hear that. You actually got it right. I'm glad that I have therapist and stuff. Sometimes we think that we will be able to controle it but we need help. We silently scream for help.

@EquestrianProgress In 20s when I was suicidal, called AA cause I drank beer as a 'solution.' Got an operator who wasn't with AA. But we talked a long time. And I am still here. Sometimes a complete stranger can be a lifesaver!

@stillheretoday

I'm happy for you. Sometimes we can tell to strangers more then to people that are close to us. Not because we don't trust those who are near, but because we are afraid of hurting them.. Strangers can become people that changed our life. :)
