How depression feels for me

"What I had begun to discover is that, mysteriously and in ways that are totally remote from normal experience, the grey drizzle of horror induced by depression takes on the quality of physical pain. But it is not an immediately identifiable pain, like that of a broken limb. It may be more accurate to say that despair, owing to some evil trick played upon the sick brain by the inhabiting psyche, comes to resemble the diabolical discomfort of being imprisoned in a fiercely overheated room. And because no breeze stirs this cauldron, because there is no escape from the smothering confinement, it is natural that the victim begins to think ceaselessly of oblivion."

@Bobby2060

I agree 100% with this! Depression is horrible and very isolating and this explains it so well and clearly. Thankyou for sharing this with our community :) <3

This quote! I love Darkness Visible - I can recommend reading it to anyone who wants to understand what is like to have depression or who are struggling with this disorder and looking for comfort in the truth. Great book.

@JoyIntoDarkness, yes, definitely do, if you can ^^ It's a Styron's memoir on his own struggle. It's not comforting in a sense that it's postive, but because it shows the real face of depression.

I'll try, reading isnt my strong point atm especially because no one is helping me, i have been diagnosed with meres-irlens and suspected mild dyslexia but its the meres-ilenes and the focusing which is extremeely hard for me! <3

@JoyIntoDarkness, I understand, lovely. It must make reading really difficult for you, so it's completely understandable that you don't want to strain yourself any more than it's necessary ❤︎

(Also, thank you for educating me on Meares-Irlen syndrome. I sadly never heard about this condition before.)

May I suggest trying audiobooks? I find them a good alternative for reading and for me they can distract me at night from any negative thoughts ^^;

@JoyIntoDarkness, so that's quite a toughie to solve - sorry for being presumptuous, lovely. I don't think you're awkward, lovely - no more than me ^^ I hope you'll get better soon ❤︎

I love the idea behind #SelfHarmChallenge! Reading your post is insightful - I will observe it closely, don't worry. Wish more poeple get involved in it - maybe in a forum thread in S/H section?

@JoyIntoDarkness, thank you for the link, lovely. It's good to know that there's a thread - I can see that the last activity there was in July, so it's not bad, people are still using it. Still I love that you're introducing this challenge to the feed, too. So please don't stop your project, love ^^

*hugs*
