High Functioning

LavenderDarling01 June 3rd, 2016

It's hard being high funtioning. I feel like the internal struggle I face is so intense sometimes but I'm never taken seriously. Because I work hard, i strive to become better. I am always self improving or finding ways to over come hardships. People don't see me as someone who is 'depressed' but truth is behind closed doors I tend to break down. I can only do this alone. I have hard time opening up to people about depression or feeling depressed as I have delt with it all alone for so long. I am just venting here but was wondering if anyone else can relate to being a high fucntioning individual in this sense. Would be nice to not feel so alone in this way.

I'm not sure I would describe myself as high functioning, but I can imagine life being hard if people have high expectations of you, and you also set them for yourself. Some people doubtless thrive on always trying to be one better, but it's not right for everyone. If you find a place in life that you're happy with, don't be afraid to settle. Constantly aspiring to something 'better' can cause us to miss all the great times available to us along the way.
