Dealing with overwhelming negative emotions

Myself85 April 12th, 2020

Hi everyone,

how do you deal with overwhelming negative emotions? I had a good day yesterday and thought I was ok, but then all my negative thoughts and emotions came back to me at night. I felt very sad and didn't know how to handle it at this moment. I talked to somebody and it was good somehow, but I am afraid of myself. I don't trust myself and my emotions, that even I felt good it changed at every moment.

@Myself85,

I have been in your exact situation too many times to count. People always tell me to do something thatll distract my thoughts, but I cant exactly do that when Im trying to sleep. I still havent found an exact solution myself, but I want you to know that theres other people dealing with this terrible experience as well.

If you start to feel those sad emotions again feel free to ask for a chat with me. Just search my user name (caringCami1304) and request to talk to me and Ill respond as soon as I can :)

I think that talking about these emotions and negative thoughts is a healthy way to deal with them. Im here if you need me 😉

Hi there! Thank you for sharing with all of us how you feel, you are not only sharing, you are helping others understand that are not alone feeling like this. I would be so happy to have a key advise for this issue that will immediatley solve it, but we are all different people with different needs. So, in my opinion, which is someting that helps me daily is, to make sure first to attend to my basic needs, so at least the body will be "satisfied" - make sure to drink a lot of fuilds, preferably water, make sure to eat healthier, get enough sleep and include an activity you like it do daily if possible and keep expressing your feelings either here on 7cups or with someone you care about. That would be step one, and then you start building from there, you start expolring what else can help, would it be meditation or yoga, video or movie, reading... there are many things you can check out and test if working for you. Keep trying, that is the way to result. You are never alone in this. One day you will feel much better and then you can help others struggling. Stay strong!

Thanks for your reply. Yeah I try to take care for me, like doing sports, go running and eat healthy. I also have an eating disorder so I struggle with eating sometimes, or at the moment, more often. It was better for a long time, but now I feel somehow lost. I am tired of trying to feeling better every day. Sometimes it's hard to endure the feeling of being lost and that I don't know how to make it better.@CaringPeach

I am proud of you for trying daily, you are a fighter! I am really glad you are taking care of yourself, but the eating disorder should be looked into, please consider reaching out to a professional regarding that and ask for support, there is no shame in asking for help, we all need it sometimes in our lives. You would be surprised what good nutrition can do for your well being and feeling calmer. And as I mentioned before, you have to keep exporing and find what works for you, try maybe dedicating some time to find suggestions that have helped people and check what suits you the best. Even educating yourself on anxety and understanding what exactly is happenig may help. Now as last, please, if you feel like you cannot do this on your own, reach out for specialized help on the matter. And remember there is nothing wrong with you, many people at this moment are expiriencing very smiliar things you are expiriencing. I am sending warm thoughts and positive energy towards you and all who need it. <3

And I speak to a friend about it, except him nobody knows how I really feel at the moment. But I can't rely on him too much. I feel so insecure and if he isn't replying for a day, I struggle with insecurity and self doubting. I always think I am not worse it or that I am too annoying and that he doesn't want to speak with me anymore. I hate feeling so insecure. @CaringPeach

@Myself85
that is amazing, that you have a good friend for support, but as you said he might be busy sometimes, and even the most caring people need to take care of themselves too. That doesn't meant they don't care anymore, they are just busy.
When you start to feel like this, maybe, if you feel comfortable, try engaging with a listener for support, share freely how you feel and discuss your thoughts, it usually helps to calm down. <3
