Today I had my first counselling session with a therapist who diagnosed me with depression….. is it too weird to feel relieved to have a label for what has been causing me unhappiness for over a year living in my own self pitty

Hiya @anonyApricot5688 welcome to the community.

It's certainly validating to put a label to something though, like it's not just "in your head anymore", it's on paper too, and it exists, and what you were feeling was real~ all such relieving thoughts, specially for mental health conditions that most people choose to not speak about or speak enough about, let alone assure about how real it is.

I feel, different people percieve their diagnosis differently, and it's so valid to take your time in embracing it. Your diagnosis doesn't define you, neither does your mental health condition.

Your struggles are valid, your feelings are valid and so are you. 💛
