Laid Off
Hi All. This is my first time posting. I was laid off from my marketing management job in September and I have been aggressively looking for a new role. For the first month I was very optimistic; which I tend to be and was hopeful to find something. However, things haven’t gone as swimmingly as I would’ve hoped and I’ve been dealing with anxiety/depressive episodes where I’m not really seeing things clearly and getting normal things done can be extremely hard. Ive been spending a lot of time w my family bc being around others helps (I’m single & live alone) but I was curious if anyone has an tips for managing this at the start of it? Sometimes I’ll force myself/hype myself up but it takes so much energy I’m just exhausted by the end of the day.
Hey @straightforwardTriangle3553 😊
Hi there,
First off, I want to say how brave it is of you to reach out and share your experience. Losing a job can be incredibly challenging, and it's okay to feel a range of emotions during this time. It's great to hear that spending time with your family has been a source of comfort for you. Sometimes, just being around others can make a big difference.
In terms of managing anxiety and depressive episodes, it might be helpful to establish a routine that includes activities you enjoy or find relaxing, even if they seem small. This could be anything from a short walk, reading, or practicing mindfulness exercises. These activities can act as gentle anchors throughout your day.
Also, don't underestimate the power of self-compassion. It's okay to have days where you don't feel up to doing much. Be kind to yourself and acknowledge that what you're going through is tough.
Remember, your worth is not defined by your job status. This period could also be an opportunity to explore new interests or skills that you might not have had the time for previously. And when it comes to job hunting, consider setting small, achievable goals to keep it from feeling overwhelming.
Take care, and remember, you're not alone in this journey.
