Getting better makes me feel worse

jamie2001uk June 24th, 2023

Been trying to get better rather than just distracting myself from realising I am a person that exists (like i have for the past year or two), and I just breakdown realising where I am at in life, who I am, and it kills me. It's almost as if getting better makes me feel worse.

I tried the same, and now I'm even worse off. I don't know what it is but I have the same :)

Sorry to hear you are feeling worse. I would hope it's part of the process of getting better though, I really do.

jamie2001uk I think it's important to see yourself valuable regardless where you are in life right now. Then of course if you have specific goals it's good to try to achieve them but it's perfectly fine if you will, later on. Is it maybe that comparisons with others put you down? Sometimes we need to be more gentle with ourselves, to change the thoughts and the emotions we might experience with them.

I am not saying it's easy peasy, I am not coming with a solution. I am also sure you are already doing your best to feel better but let's think for a moment about that.... you have put effort and didn't give up, isn't it something to congratulate you for? Isn't it something positive about yourself? Probably that alone won't magically make you feel better but I felt to remind you that you are valuable 💙

It is definitely a roller coaster. But you can feel better more permanently over time. Your brain just sends out all of this nasty stuff as you are beginning to feel better to cause you to question yourself. @jamie2001uk

Well, of course it is brain chemicals at the heart of it, but your brain is in a rut of lying and it struggles to get out. I know for me, I had a bunch of trouble seeing that I was improving. The more often that I pointed it out to myself, the better that I was. I began realizing that the hole was still just as hard as ever, but I never stayed as long. Then the distance between hole times kept increasing. I still sometimes go down there but when it is one day every 4-5 months then I know I will survive. @jamie2001uk
