- How is January starting? What are you feeling right now?
- How do you imagine this month will be for you? A month like any other? Or with some distinctive characteristics and emotions?
I look forward to your comments.
All the best!
Marcelo.
December has been awful for me. I found out my long term boyfriend with whome I've been living with for 6 years is in love with another woman. After a big argument, I decided to move out from his apartment and try to live in a rented apartment. I'm afraid I won't be able to survive on my own. That's the only thing I've been thinking about since December until now.
I'm staring January by moving out from his apartment and living alone. I got a new job that's paying more and I'm waiting to start it. I also got a part time job, in weekends and I'm waiting to start that one too. I'm still anxious and afraid. I hope I'll manage it but I'm so bad at handling money. I always had his support and now I have to do it all alone. In afraid.
I think January will be a tough month for me. I'll have to learn how to live alone and how to take good care of myself. I want to stop being scared I'll fail and that I'm no good alone but I don't know how I'll handle it.
I have no IRL friends so I don't know with whom I can talk, besides co-workers. I wish I had a friend to cry with.
I've always had to deal with feelings of loneliness and depression and now I'll have to deal with those all alone.
You aren't alone. You have people here to support you. You can write here every day if you want.
I know that the challenge looks big right now, but you are off to a good start. Now you just start trying to see what it all looks like day by day.
I bet that you are much stronger than you realize. @Noire1208
I know that feeling, wishing to have a friend to cry with. Me too I am tired of people crying alone I want to hold somebodys hand when they cry and when I cry I want somebody to hold my hand or hold me in their arm
Asking for it can help I asked my mom and she did it and I don't remember her ever doing that before and I think it felt good for her too
Oh now I did the forbidden thing and gave advice and can't take it back I am sorry if it made anybody feel bad I just wanted to tell you I can relate to that feeling
You did nothing wrong! You are fine.@Seacu
Hello, I'm new here!

December was pretty hectic on the work front, but not so much on the interpersonal front. I know I did the best I could during my hours - I didn't really get a chance to unwind during the break since I was working for majority of it lol.
January is starting on a hectic note too, but I am managing and I know things will start to settle down, bit-by-bit. I powered through more intense obstacles last year, and I admire myself for doing that.
I know I have it in me, I just have to be mindful of personal health. I feel strong interpersonal emotions, meaning that my body is telling me to carve out more time to relax.
It is great that your body is telling you to slow down. How are you doing that? @SynSavory
@bestVase7265
I guess I am doing that by watching TV shows, listening to music, etc. I did less of it before but I figured out a better time to do those things - these do impact the time I start sleep, but then again I work night-time anyway, so at least I wake up somewhat okay.
It sounds like you are headed in a good direction! @SynSavory
December ended pretty much the same. I'm not much for one on the holidays, not many family members to visit. So for me I just keep myself busy.
January actually going well. I moved into a.new place. Slightly more expensive but definitely better living conditions. And have a possibility of some good work coming my way. So pretty positive right now.
Well I figure it would pretty much be the same. I keep to myself and just work. I know it can't always be the most healthy way to live mentally, so I do make myself stay connected, but right now im.making everything about me and becoming finicially independent completely. No more check to check. Which is why I am happy with the new job opportunities. It helps to see positive results. Because not going to lie it can.lonely sometimes.
And way thanks for letting me check in and get this out there. Like I say I try to keep myself connected and this site and helping workers does that for.me. Great work yall really appreciate it.
That is awesome that your year is off to a good start. A new place and a job that you are more satisfied with are both awesome!
Is there anything that you try to do for yourself to feel less alone? @Lonecreature
@HealingTalk
- How has December been for you? I feel like I have been in a severe stage of depression. What were your feelings during December, particularly the last two weeks? My feelings were “I am barely holding on”
- How is January starting? January has been a continuation of dread and anxiety. I have felt like my head and heart are exploding while I am simultaneously drowning. What are you feeling right now? The opposite of hopeful. I know concepts of gratitude and acceptance are important. I just can’t shake the bad feelings no matter what I try to do to turn it around.
- How do you imagine this month will be for you? This month I need something to alter how I am feeling. I am grasping at straws. It feels like life is empty and that things are falling apart. A month like any other? It is not a month like any other. It is perhaps one of the times I have felt the worst. I am trying to reset. Or with some distinctive characteristics and emotions? What is the darkness hanging over me?
It can be so hard when you are trying to get rid of that darkness on your own and no matter what you do you can't get it to lift.
It isn't your fault. Remember that there are brain chemicals that aren't working properly.
Do you have people who you turn to for support?@JLarissaNowhere256
@bestVase7265 yes, I have a wonderful husband. I think the pain may be part of life. Existence can be very tough. A lot of it can be holding on. We are fortunate for pockets of happiness
Absolutely, the key is finding ways to focus on that happiness. Sometimes it is just small moments at first, but you are retraining your brain. You get better at it the more that you do it. Then the bad periods (which always exist) start to become shorter.
You can feel better, but start by leaning on your support network and being happy for the few minutes of joy that you get in the next few days. Write down those moments if that helps. Something like "my favorite moment today was..." @JLarissaNowhere256
@bestVase7265
thank you for your kind words and feedback And my favorite moment yesterday is simply I made it to the end which is still something
Yes and that is something to be celebrated. It is never guaranteed.
Sometimes your moment of the day can simply be drinking a cup of tea that you actually tasted, feeling the hot water on your back in the shower, or listening to a piece of music that kept you from imagining the depression for a few minutes. Think small, not big, and then watch the little start to add up. @JLarissaNowhere256
How are things going for you? I have been thinking about you.@JLarissaNowhere256
@bestVase7265 hello. I am anxious as I gave notice on my job to take time to reset priorities and get things in my life in order. It is a scary decision. I did go to my doctor to get restarted on antidepressants. I got several people who will write letters of recommendation for me and my current company indicated they would offer me other opportunities even if I need a 4 week leave. I feel indecisive. Thanks for thinking of me!
It is okay if you are indecisive. No decision has to be made tomorrow. You have started on a good path and it sounds like your employer wants to try to find something that works. That is a good thing. So the next steps don't involve actually making choices. They involve research. Think about what a better position might look like where you are or elsewhere.
You can do this and you can find a better path. @JLarissaNowhere256

Bit late but thought I'd post anyhow
1. December was ok. Started a new job which I really liked only for the fact to be working again after not being able to for a few years. Was pretty isolated though
2. It's been busy. Not sure right now what I'm feeling but it's somewhere between excited for the future and scared
3. I think it'll be a meaningful month if only since there are so many new things going on
@KittyKeats
Hi!
I am glad you got a new job, and that it promotes a more active social life.
It seems that 2024 might be better than past years,
Novelty brings anxiety, but that is ok, unless it gets overwhelming.
I hope these significant changes in your life make for a great improvement in your quality of life for the years to come.
All the best!
Marcelo.
@HealingTalk hello. I'm on here looking for help and just something over than my mind talking to me. My girlfriend recently broke up and she was truly my other half. I'm very anxious and kind of forgot how to live without someone else. So I'm on this app trying to find help.
@Nielsallerup
Hi!
Welcome to 7 Cups and to this Community!
Thank you for coming here to this check-in
Actively participating in the forums is a great way to connect and get support.
I am sorry about your breakup.
I had a similar experience and it hurt me a lot. It took time until the pain became bearable. I still get very sad when I remember her.
But I could eventually start over and rebuild my shattered life.
It just takes time. It can't be rushed. There are no magic potions.
Surrounding yourself during this process with people who care will be comforting, and an active social network will help you in time to rebuild your emotional life.
You will find a lot of support in 7 Cups. In the forums, group chat Sharing Circles and sessions, chatting with Listeners...
You will find lots of good, caring people here.
I suggest that you also join the "Relationships" community, and check the "Breakups" topic (click to the left) https://www.7cups.com/home/relationships/
Thank you again for coming here.
I encourage you to explore and get involved as much as you can in 7 Cups.
I wish you all the best!
See you soon!
Marcelo.

- How has December been for you? What were your feelings during December, particularly the last two weeks?
- December has been very hard. I've basically been "depressed" the whole time.
- The last few weeks were particularly hard as I struggled with the concepts of wealth, health and happiness vs. Money and being rich and societal surface pressures and my upbringing, genetics, epigenetics, injustice, giving without getting anything back, etc..
- How is January starting? What are you feeling right now?
- January seems even worse as I cycle out of the hey-day of the holidays.
- I'm feeling exhausted and like something is wrong with me, like I'M what's wrong with me.
- How do you imagine this month will be for you? A month like any other? Or with some distinctive characteristics and emotions?
- I imagine this month will continue to be challenging with lots of sleep and battling my way out "seasonal depression", while trying to reconcile with whatever comes up and tapering into something a bit more balanced and organized near the end of the month.
Hopefully
@Dallady
Hi Dal!
Thank you for coming here to this check-in!
The Holidays season is tough for many of us, and for real reasons.
We might do a balance of the year, and many issues might surface or get underscored.
Life is unfair, with many things out of our control.
We play with the cards that were given to us.
True success is how well we play those cards. Playing well bad cards is a great achievement.
We might not become superstars or billionaires, but we might be very proud of ourselves for that.
In my experience, I have found that having modest goals and appreciating tiny achievements works best for me. Trying to deal with the big picture of my entire life gets overwhelming.
You might find it useful to choose just one 100% achievable goal for the rest of the month, working on that one, and appreciating your progress.
I hope little by little, things get better and better in your life.
Please keep coming!
All the best!
Marcelo.
