12) About the Writer: Writing Effective Writer Biographies
As discussed before, incorporating EAT helps enhance content quality and helps more people discover the developed content.
Apart from ensuring EAT within our content, we need to ensure that we have effective writer biographies that support the developed content.
In this discussion, we will understand how to ensure effective writer biographies through applying EAT and other best practices.
-
Expertise
- When considering the expertise factor for author biographies, expertise refers to the credentials or experience the author has.
- Medical content is best supported/expertised through medical professionals, for example, and similarly, relevant experience or education qualifies as expertise.
- However, if one does not have a degree, expertise can be demonstrated through lived experience or other ways. For example, being an active listener for 7 Cups for 3 years does demonstrate expertise in listening and supporting mental health concerns.
Note: To keep up with the Expertise factor’s need, 7 Cups currently either pairs content writers with experts and content is published through the expert profile with the writer biography contained at the end of the co-authored article, or publishes writer works through a shared account called “7 Cups Community, Global Support” - the biography of this account is optimized to reflect EAT.
-
Authoritativeness
- Authority in terms of an author biography refers to the number of citations the author has. This includes their publications and other published content, as well as any reviews or things that show the impact or quality of their work.
-
Trust
- Trust is also determined by an author’s citations - trusted authors have published content for websites and publications that score high on EAT factors.
- Trust is also established through the quality of an author’s content.
Activity
Using the factors discussed above, write a biography for your prospective articles at 7 Cups. Feel welcome to include your real name/pseudonym or first name - anything you are comfortable with being prospectively published!
After you have written the brief paragraph-form biography, point out what parts of the biography highlight each of the EAT factors.
Respond to at least one other student’s biography and comment your feedback for improvement.
Bonus (Optional): Consider starting a 7 Cups creator portfolio here!

My name is Sara, i am 28 years old. I am a mother of 2 and currently work full time as a peer advocate specilist in a behavioral clinic linked to addiction and mental health issues. My main purpose is to help others and listen through there struggles,successes and goals just like here on 7 cups! I joined 7 cups in feb 2022. I have learned alot from 7 cups and joined to help myself get knowledge to help others out in the community just like i do online. Online here at 7 cups i enjoy taking member request chats and talking to them for a good ammount of time until they feel comfortable and better to go offline. I have badges to show how much i have put into this great site including but not limited too all the trainings, becoming a verified listener, and currently working the cdm program! I orginally joined also because i was going through a struggle of my own. I never knew how beneficial it was going to be to my own mental health purposes. I have gone through so much this last year such as misscarriage,horrible panic attacks and depression. Trauma has consumed my life such as domestic violence and i can safely say i am a survivor. My mission is to continue to service others in similiar situations and would never give up on an individual struggling because i know what its like to feel alone.
E-included my job title in real life, that is similiar to the volunteer work here on 7 cups, and the date i started on 7 cups to show how long ive put in.
A-using the knowledge i have at my own fulltime job peer advocacy, i take great responsibility at helping members when they request to speak to me and also taking member chats. Sponsoring them, i included my badges and my progress on 7 cups.
T- my profile on 7cups shows my member request response rate, and also shows how i have gone through the same things as some of the other members so they put there trust in me not to be NON-judgmental

Rukayat started her journey on 7cups in 2019 as member. As time passed by she became an Active listener early this year which has been a very beautiful experience for her.
7cups was a starting point for into realising that she loves helping people and finding solutions to people distress. Showing Empathy and supporting has always been what she loves doing especially when it has to do with mental health, counselling and motivating.
She is an Undergraduate studying Physiology, but loves Psychology and mental health. When she discovered the Content Development and Marketing Program this year it was like a dream come true because she as always wanted to develop her writing skills so much and hopes to get published someday.
The program has taught her self development and a lot of amazing ways to create content. Graphics and also marketing strategies have been benefited from this programme.
7cups really brought out an undiscovered person she never thought was in her and has been driving her to keep pursuing this passion of hers for writing and mental health awareness.
@EmpathyShoulder1904
I love your bio! It’s both informative and shows aspects of your personality and passions. Perhaps, in the future, you could provide some statistics e.g. the number of reviews/ratings you received as a listener, to increase your Trust (EAT).
@EmpathyShoulder1904 This is great! One room for improvement would be the inclusion of EAT.
SirenOfSerenity, better known under her pseudonym "La Siren", was born with an empathetic heart of gold. In her professional life, she obtained an Associate's degree in Health Sciences with a concentration in Pharmacy in 2015. While pursuing her Bachelor's degree in Public Health shortly after, she realized what she truly felt passionate about: Supporting people and their general well-being, but more emotional and mental health than physical health. La Siren, herself, has gone through mental health struggles. The day her life changed was May 23, 2022, when she took the step to devote herself to the Listener Journey of 7 cups after 4 years of being a member.
The passion she felt for providing a safe space, a non judgemental ear and progressive empathy was the best gift she could give back to 7 cups for helping her out of the darkest, most confusing moments of her life as well as career change. Outside of 7 cups, La Siren balances her occupation as a Caretaker, creator of healing soaps and oils, and will be a Certified Spiritual Life Coach as of 8/28/2022.
Within the 7 cups community, La Siren is a Verified Listener, Peer Supporter, Listener Sharing Circle Team host and project agent, Listener Check In Host, 7 Cups Academy Intern, as well as a 7 Cups Academy Content Development and Marketing Student. She dedicates 7+ Listening hours a week, and is rated highly among each member she reaches, currently ranking 5 stars among 15 reviews within her first month of becoming a Listener.

@SirenOfSerenity
A very nice biography with great qualifications. You also applied your E.A.T factors properly and highlighted them well.
Emillie is an established working class journalist, specialising in health. After achieving publications in national and international titles within a year of starting out, Emillie’s career has gone from strength to strength. Her spare time is split between various volunteering roles, including her role as a Trained and Verified Active Listener with 7 Cups of Tea, which has seen her provide high quality support to teens and adults experiencing emotional distress since 2019.
Expertise- I mention my experience volunteering on 7 Cups, as well as my employment as a health journalist. From this the audience can infer that I am well trained and experienced in health related topics, including mental health.
Authoritativeness- I have linked a couple of my published articles as evidence for the audience.
Trust- Linked publications.
The hyperlinks don’t want to insert properly, so here’s what I would include. On the word “national” I would link this: https://metro.co.uk/2021/08/06/after-covid-coronation-streets-funeral-parlour-has-been-a-strong-move-15024041/
And, on the word “international” I would link this: https://www.hearherspeak.com/health/what-uk-college-students-want-you-to-know-about-their-menal-health-during-the-pandemic
@YellowButton223
Your bio is reliable and the hyperlinks to your previous posts to the publications makes your posts more trustworthy and readable. Mentioning your current qualifications as a health journalist also gives authority to your words
I wish you all the best in the completion of the course !

@blissfulForest7074 your bio is amazeballs!
I like that you focused on your evolution on 7Cups, I'll definitely take that into account when I write mine. It's also remarkable that EAT was observed when writing it; I've been having a hard time doing that but I'm taking notes on what you did here. Thank you for sharing! :)
Connections, apart from love, make the world go round, or at least that's what Janey believes. A solid member turned verified active listener on 7 Cups, she has been on both sides of the conversation making her a very effective content writer who loves to share her experiences as a way to let people know they are never alone.
Her portfolio includes both creative and technical writing from at least a dozen different industries, but she always has a special place in her heart for sending messages through her articles and blog posts to make people feel a little bit better about themselves and their situations.
Expertise - I mentioned my transition from member to a verified listener
Authoritative - I mentioned my experience as a writer
Trust - I mentioned I have several posts about a lot of different industries. However, since not all of them are related to mental health, I didn't include links.
@CosmicMiracle
What I liked is how you expressed the growth 7 Cups offers becoming a listener after being a member. I think it helps exemplify EAT for 7 Cups very well. I would trust you because of that journey and have hope for my own progress. Nicely done.
