I cannot fathom working for 35+ more years

I’m 31. I’m on my fifth job since graduating college back in 2016. Worked for healthcare for the majority of these years, a short stint in the food industry, and now I’m in an entry level corporate position. I am burned out. Beyond burnt out. Every job I’ve held in my professional years has been high stress, unreasonable workloads, and unsatisfying.

I have no aspirations for trying to find a new “career”. I have searched and scoured and taken various free online courses for different interests and I do not care for anything. I just want a job that can make ends meet and not make me mentally unwell

I’m miserable and so exhausted. I’m crabby and *** off all the time. I can’t relax when I’m not at work. I hate all the repeated advice of making sure to set boundaries, getting enough sleep, exercising, having hobbies, not being so serious about work, finding another new job that won’t make you mentally unwell. This is capitalism, baby. Take it or be homeless. All I’ve know is large corporate companies, I can’t imagine small businesses could be better.

I hate that I have to work to survive on a planet I didn’t even ask to be on. I wasn’t made for sitting at a computer for 8+ hours a day, but I have no direction on where to head anymore. I’m completely lost and discouraged. Everyday I hope something just takes me out so I can get a break.

@turquoise21

I think many many feel this way some people do change careers ... to find something that is rewarding to themselves. others stay doing same thing and even at different companies find the same type of dissatisfaction.  I agree the repeated ideas only seem to aggravate many.

sometimes smaller companies can have a better environment sometimes not....   only you know what you are willing to change ... a different career / a different industry etc.  often that may change compensation too so it is very hard to risk less money on hope it is better fit / rewarding .... not all jobs suck i have had a few i really liked.

@turquoise21 I'm a teen so I might not be of help (definitely) but damn that shi- sounds crazy but my father would definitely relate to your position, he's in the corporate world as well, works from 9-7 everyday except Sundays. He went through depression for a while when he wasn't getting a job and money was scarce, heck I remember asking him for a basketball and we couldn't afford it. He would still buy sweets for us every other day to make us happy, he had even told me "I'm sorry if I am not able to pay for your education" at that time I didn't quite understand what he meant but now that I think about it, it was a scary statement. After 6 months of scouring, he finally got a job, he was so so happy and happily told us that he was on his last penny and God finally listened to his prayers. Apart from his job I think he does some trading as well on the side for some extra money.

Idk if this helped but yes more power to you and don't give up on life yet.🤍💪

@crimsonPapaya7218 thanks for your post even if you are significantly younger than me lol. I’m glad your father is employed now and is able to provide for your family. I don’t know where you’re headed in your life journey, but I wish you many good things.
