Myths About Bipolar→ (Part One)
Hello everyone.
Recently I saw many myths about bipolar circulating online. I hope that we can clear it all together and spread more awareness regarding it.
1) There is only one kind of bipolar.
This is completely wrong. Infact there are several types of bipolar, each has its unique symptoms and severity.
The subtypes of bipolar are:
Bipolar Disorder 1
Includes one maniac episode. Often people experience depressive episodes in this type. Usually diagnosis isn't required for it
Bipolar Disorder 2
Diagonosis requires a major depressive episode and a hypomanic episode, or an episode with similar symptoms to mania, but slightly milder.
Cyclothymia
For a diagnosis to be made, cycling between hypomanic and depressive moods must occur for a least two years with symptoms present for at least half the time.
Rapid Cycling
Rapid cycling involves at least four episodes of mood changes within a 12-month period and cannot be caused by substance use or another medical condition.
There are few others. But what I wanted to tell was there is not just one mood swing type of bipolar. It has many subtypes. So this myth is complete rubbish.
2) Mania is happy and fun feeling.
This myth is just assumption of people. Mania os definitely not phase of fun, or happy feeling. Some people do feel rush of Aderaline and might take some rash decisions which often strike them hard after mania episode passes. So there are negative aspects of it.
Infact it includes many other symptoms like—
★Extreme irritability
★Psychotic symptoms
★Impulsive behaviour
Hence mania isn't just some fun phase. Infact after long phase of depressive episodes such rush might feel quite overwhelming which might result in more anxiety and hyperactiveness.
3) Artists with bipolar will loose their creativity after treatment.
It surprises me how many people actually believe it. Infact many are afraid of getting treatment because they think that they'll lose their creativity.
This is completely wrong. Infact proper treatment can help you more with productivity. It helps you to focus more on it.
4) People with bipolar cannot work.
Yes working with bipolar can be really difficult but not impossible. Since it's associated with mood swings and dramatic changes in behavior, it can be difficult for people with the illness to maintain productivity and optimal function in their jobs. There are several different aspects of bipolar that can impact work. These can include:
★Loss of productivity due to medication side effect
★Missed hours or days due to symptoms or time spent attending medical appointments
★Being fired or let go from a job due to symptoms or lack of understanding about the illness
Despite of these challenges it's not impossible for a person to work. Infact many people have influenced great work.
One in five people get diagnosed with bipolar. It gets little difficult in day to day life but with proper treatment and determination anything is possible . I hope that these myths don't spread since they can be harmful.
For now let's spread more information and facts rather than myths. Will cover more in part two.
Thank you so much everyone. Together let's make this world more kind and understanding place. Let's spread love.
Ana❤
