My mom does not understand autism

I wish my mom understood

I have some major life skills deficits, which is normal for autism, but she’s always yelling at me, telling me I need to grow up and act my age.

today I was having sensory overload and she scolded me for “putting my hands over my ears like a weirdo”

Unfortunately autism has many many different forms and not all is the same  .... so it is not something many understand....  Many items like sensory overload happens at so many different  levels how do we know another persons  limit?      Is this a  formal diagnosis and your Doctor can offer help with dealing with this for the family ?

Would you prefer she treat you as if you are broken and Cannot  Will Not learn or adjust to more life skills and coping strategies?

Your path forward may be more challenging with autism  in facing some things but what she is saying like grow up  and act your age is the type of thing many parents say to any child ....

Have you ever put yourself in her shoes and asked yourself how to handle it better ?

if so can you talk to her about your issues to help her understand better or are you just assuming she should magically know because she is a mom?
