how do i get my parents to believe me?
so basically my parents don’t believe me. im 16 struggling with these symptoms and my parents just think its my teen years. what do i do? im around the level 1/2 area. they think just because i didnt struggle as much as others do i dont have it. so any tips?
@LaVonne08
Hi Lavonne, you don’t say what symptoms you’re struggling with but I’m sure your parents wouldn’t like to think you were. Have you spoken to anyone else about this, perhaps a school counsellor, teacher?
Sometimes parents don’t consider any possible diagnosis assuming it’s all part of teenage life.
Thanks for reaching out, hope you get some answers soon.
@LaVonne08 Hi 👋 Looking back at my daughter at 16, ADHD & autistic, there was a definite overlap with her symptoms and "normal" teen challenges. Such as mood swings, procrastination and disorganization. As a parent I concentrated on making sure she felt accepted and loved, not based on her behavior. One way she helped me was writing me letters to express her feelings, so I could just sit and absorb for a while. Not sure if that might help in your case, but want to let you know it's okay to say things "Please just accept me" or "I need your love right now, not advice."
