What symptoms do you have?

itsjustmelia November 10th, 2019

Hi everyone! Basically a month ago I went away on a trip to the UK, I was very anxious cause it was my first time travelling without my family. Before leaving I had three very bad days with chest pain, nausea and palpitations. Once I came back I had two good days, and then I started to feel sick again. I went to the doctors and told them I had stomach pains (nausea, diarrea, etc) and they said it was from the trip. It's been a month and I still have symptoms: nausea in the morning (I can't eat anything), discomfort on my chest, I feel a tightness on my ribs, back pains... I have a blood test appointment in 10 days and I'm so scared they're gonna say I'm sick. I have very bad health anxiety and I seriously think there's something wrong with me.

So basically I wanted to ask if you've struggled with these symptoms for this long? (it's been a month!!) I would love to chat if any of you are going through the same. I'd like to think I'll be better once I get the blood test results, but I'm just scared this symptoms are not anxiety related and I'm actually sick. I think about this 24/7 and it's making my everyday life really hard.

Need your help guys, thank you ❤️ - Lia

I'm sorry to hear that you've felt ill for such a long time. I know the feeling. Lucky for me it doesnt' last as long, a week or 2 at the most. Also, my health isn't the source of my anxiety which for you I'm sure makes it worse by feeding on itself.

Have you truly discussed your fears with anyone? I find that my symptoms disappear once I've opened up to someone and let them know what's going on.

Take care and I hope this helps.

@stevew1967 Hello! Thank you for your message, and yes, health anxiety has to be worst type of anxiety. You never know when your symptoms are from anxiety or you're actually sick.

I've told my parents how I feel and they say I'm just fine, obviously I think until I get my blood test done I won't get either the confirmation that I have something wrong, or not. If everything turns out alright from the tests and I still feel like this I will be definitely look for a therapist to see what's wrong with me. I will make sure to update.

Take care x

@itsjustmelia I have health anxiety too. 6 yrs ago I had post partum preeclampsia had to be in the ICU for 4 days. My body was fighting a stroke. Ever since, I have a fear of stroke or heart attack.

I get panic attacks because of it, feel like I cant breathe, my skin feels like it is burning, nausea, racing heart palpitations, clammy hands and feet.

I've had cardiology tests done 2 years ago because antidepressants were making things worse. Im super sensitive to medication. They say I'm fine but its always so hard to believe them. Its always the same symptoms even as I write this I am having some of them trying not to panic. Im so exhausted from feeling this way. A lot of people do so if your parents cant understand right now at least know you are not alone. I hope you feel more relaxed after your blood test.

@secretkitty Hello, I am so sorry you had to go through this, it truly is something really hard and that I struggle with everyday. Right now as I'm typing this I have this feeling of pressure on the left side of my chest, and it's the worst.

Yesterday I had a breakdown after my mum said she doesn't believe I actually have these symptoms and I'm doing it to be the center of attention, which is exactly the opposite thing I want. Why would I lie about me having bad chest pains? It got to a point of me thinking now I want the doctors to tell me I have something so that they believe me and feel bad for ignoring what I was telling them. I just need these blood tests done cause this wait is killing me.

Thank you for your message and I hope everything goes well for you <3

@itsjustmelia I just cried reading the part about hoping the dr. Says something is wrong so they believe you. I've definitely been there. Every test I take...I hope that it is something so I can get rid of these feelings. I snuggled with my daughter tjis morning and we discussed what we dreamt about which calmed me. Sometimes holding an ice cube in my hands or near the back of my neck tames my symptoms. And distracts them.

My family didn't believe that I was suffering from fear at first. I had some friends and my husband who did but it still felt so lonely that the rest of our family would crack jokes when I wanted to try and new way of managing my anxiety. It hurts, but we can't change their way of seeing things they have to want to open their minds to see the us. Until then, there are so many people who are experiencing similar things and believe you whole heartedly and wish you only the best in healing.

@secretkitty Thank you so much for your message. I will definitely try the ice thing to see if it helps me, so far I haven't really find a way of calming myself. Sometimes a hot towel can help me for a few minutes but it never lasts long.

I agree with you, I get that for people who don't struggle with this it might be hard for them to understand us. Like you said it's amazing to know there's more people in our same situation. I tell myself all my symptoms are because I'm worried about the blood results, so if I still feel like this afterwards I will definitely look into getting some help and therapy.

Sending you love and hope all is right ❤️
