Sleep Training

OhThatsJay January 14th, 2020

It took about an hour for me to get my almost 3 year old back to bed in her own bed. She's finally back to sleep but now I'm wide awake anxiety is through the roof and my heart is racing from all the screaming and crying she did prior. I can't even go back to sleep even though I'M EXHAUSTED

@OhThatsJay

Those nights where your child refuses to sleep are sooooo frustrating and exhausting. I can remember being in tears, wondering why my son just wouldn't go to sleep. I don't know if it would help you, but one thing I used to do was put him in his crib, and then I would just sit in the room with him (lights off, soothing music). I had a rocking chair in there, and I would just sit quietly and not acknowledge if he stood up and stared at me (which he would).

He may not have gone to sleep immediately, but he also wasn't going to get my stress up. I just used that time to relax and enjoy some quiet time. When he got older and we switched from crib to bed (started with a mattress on the floor), we put a baby gate at his door so that if he got up, he wasn't going to wander the house. He had to stay in his room. (We were right next to him and could hear everything if he decided to get up and play.)
