My anxiety right now

TheWanderer27 October 12th, 2017

Hey,

So I know I'm not the only person to experience this or deal with it, but right now my anxiety is chronic. I can't eat properly, which is making me lose energy rapidly and crash (today I had to take the afternoon off work because of it all). It really is debilitating. I've suffered anxiety most of my life, I've had bad panic attacks, and I know how bad it can be. What I don't know is how to properly deal with it and take care of myself right now. I think I've got the anxiety trigger understood, I'm just not sure how to move past this bit. I know what I need/want to do, to take charge of the situation, but the anxiety is really holding me back. I was just wondering if anyone had any words of advice or help, or just general support.

Thanks,

TW

Hi there, thanks for sharing your post with us! I myself experience a loss of apptetite when my anxiety really peaks, so I completely understand what you are going through. I'm glad that you have self awareness of your situition which is a huge step! What coping methods have you tried so far? If you have tried anything out, then that can help figure out what works best for you (like trial and error). At 7Cups, we have various resources to offer to help with anxiety and panic attacks. We have a range of mindfulness exercises that can help with these issues and more; you can find the complete list here: https://www.7cups.com/exercises/mindfulness/?showlist=1

Feel free to reach out to the listeners here if you wish to chat. Best wishes, and remember that we are here for you. :)

@lovelyWhisper66 I just looked at the list, and that is really awesome. Thank you for sharing that with me. :) I have tried painting and drawing, and being out in nature. Sometimes it isn't possible to do any of those things. I struggle with keeping up with the habits, as I tend to forget about them when I'm feeling better, and despite knowing that's not a good practice, it's retraining myself to think and act differently on the subject.

@TheWanderer27 You are most welcome! Those are awesome methods. Habits can be difficult to maintain. Finding something that you enjoy always helps and can motivate you to do it when the need arises.

I, too, have occassional panic attacks where I can't focus on anything besides the thing that triggers me. Hence, it is a viscious cycle. What I can suggest to you is the grounding technique, to distract yourself from focusing on that. My therapist has helped me go through my panic attack with this method. What you can do is to focus on whatever it is during the environment you're in. Let's say you want to focus on something red, so you will say out loud or in your mind whatever is red in the environment. That way you are able to distract you from your irrational thouhts and take that panic state away. Hope this helps!

I am so sorry to hear that you are going through this! I also sometimes experience anxiety and find myself unable to eat. I hope that you are able to find peace soon, this must be so hard for you to deal with.
