Loneliness

pinkCranberry3782 March 5th, 2021

My anxiety tends to get high whenever I have to be alone. My partner and I work different schedules, so there's days and times after I get off work and I'm alone. Typically this starts making my mind wander, I get intrusive thoughts and my anxiety gets pretty high up there. Just wanted some advice for how to deal with the anxiety that happens when I'm lonely.

I wish I had a partner or companion

Hey, sorry that sounds like not a nice thing to go through. I can sorta relate - I only feel good and confident about myself and safe when I am around people I trust, on my own more often than not (tho not always) I just feel very scared and vulnerable. It sucks bigtime, also because around others it seems like there is literally so little to be anxious about, yet when I'm on my own there I go again.

I'm not sure on specific things that can help. I do notice having more confidence about myself & "knowing" more who I am and what I do makes me feel more secure with myself. Not sure if this is any help tho. In any case sorry this is affecting you like this, it's an awful thing to be anxious, especially when you're alone. Maybe looking into mindfulness), I heard that does a lot of good for many people with anxiety (tho never got into it much myself). Hope you'll figure out how to get to grips with this and feel better when you are on your own.

this sounds really hard, would background noise help? sometimes it helps me to have concentration sounds on that i find on youtube (video game music helps with focus, also white noise, lo-fi music, coffee shop or library ambience etc) - idk but it can sometimes be helpful when you’re trying to keep your mind off anxiety <3
