Online one one counseling

It's been nearly three months since my breakdown. I have made a lot of progress, but I think it's now time for private counseling. What are your opinions of this sites private online counseling?

@BradleyK Anyone who had a really good experience of counselling and it cured their anxiety is not very likely to stick around on 7 Cups, although a few might stay to become listeners. And anyone who had a really bad experience is not very likely to stick around either. So I would not be confident that the replies you get here will be very reliable.

The people most likely to stick around and read your question are probably people who found online counselling was a good experience but it didn't cure their anxiety. So they continue to come to 7 Cups for support.

Unfortunately I can't think of any place you can ask this question where the replies will not be biased in some way.

Hi Bradley. I personally find this kind of therapy useful. I am myself a very metodic person and in ten months I have very rarely skipped a day of therapy. This means that I have made progress in a much quicker way compared to what used to happen in traditional face to face therapy (that I had for years). You must be comfortable with expressing yourself through writing, and then as in traditional therapy I suppose you just have to get a good match with your therapist. I would advice you to carefully select them reading their areas of expertise and reviews.

Hello Bradley!

I would first like to recognize how much of a step you're making to better both yourself and your life! Considering therapy as an option can be incredibly hard, but you're being very brave with your choice and that's amazing.

At 7 Cups you can connect with a trained, active Listener for free (for those 13+) (see a list of Listeners here). Listeners are NOT therapists. Think of them as peers hoping to help you with daily life concerns that may come your way.

As far as therapy goes (only for those 18+), for $150 a month you can send unlimited messages to a licensed therapist. You can see a list of therapists here. Our therapy bot, Sophia, will match you to a therapist that fits your needs. You can connect with Sophia (the bot) here.

As to how effective online therapy is, I have never tried it, so I cannot say. I do in-person therapy with a licensed social worker and she is incredible and has helped me immensely. As a Listener on 7 Cups, I like to support others because I understand what it's like to handle difficult life situations. As a Member on 7 Cups, I gain peer support when my friends and others in my life are unavailable to help me directly.

I hope this helps a bit. If you have further questions, please feel free to ask them on this thread!

@EmmaGrill Thank you. It's been something I've considered, but I wanted my meds to take a little more effect. I had another severe breakdown on Thursday last. I live in Mexico and with the language barrier face to face isn't a practical option for me at this time. I am in a group therapy on another site, but I'm ready to move to my next level. Thank you for reaching out to me.
