Pharmacophobia, fear of meds.
I've been at an all time low going downwards. I think the biggest problem that needs to be addressed are my anxiety disorders. The sad irony of this is one of them is pharmacophobia. I have an absolutely out of control panic from taking meds. I should be on benzodiazepines, but can't get past the starting dose (which you're supposed to titrate up from). The dilemma of not being able to take anxiety meds to deal with anxiety isn't getting resolved. I often can't force myself to put pills in my mouth even, choke on them and, on the rare occasions i can swallow them i throw them up immediately. I've never had the chance of finding out if they would work or not, can't keep them down at a proper dose. The throwing up is caused by my panic, the need to not let meds in. I had a bad experience nearly 3 years ago where i was medicated into a psychotic break, so i understand where it comes from. My anxiety disorders (i have GAD, CPTSD, panic attacks and agoraphobia, besides pharmacophobia) are so severe they aren't reacting to yoga, breathing, CBT/DBT, etc.etc. does anyone here have experience with fear of meds and how they cope with it/overcome it? I have a therapist and a psychiatrist, but it's not something they've experienced so they don't entirely understand it let alone know what to do about. Any feedback from someone who has struggled with / is struggling with this problem would be much appreciated, thank you.

I'm pretty sure that any effort and time you put in to breathing, relaxation, mindfulness, yoga will be beneficial. These work directly on the unconscious, which is where your difficulties originate. I would also try massage, acupuncture, shiatzu if you can.
Take a look at ayurveda as well, which may give you some dietary guidelines.
Good luck.

Hi Bouyant,
It must be incredibly difficult to have pharmacophobia while you're already working hard to overcome other anxieties; I imagine that I would feel frustrated and anxious myself. I think that it's great that you've been able to identify when that fear began for you- sometimes the roots of anxiety can be difficult to find, but you are aware of it's beginnings and I hope that will give you some guidance as you work to overcome your struggle. Since pills are difficult for you to take, can you discuss with your doctor if there is a form of medication that might be easier for you to take? I hope that you have other supports close by and that your healthcare providers are able to help you shed some light on some helpful information and answers for you. And I hope all of the very best for you as you keep moving forward.
