How do you cope with your phobia?

DreamsofAuratus September 2nd

I have a phobia that I'll be addressing with a therapist soon. It's so debilitating that I can't name it without getting triggered. Lately, it's been getting so much worse — I am starting to avoid certain rooms in my home and becoming reluctant to go outside, even though I used to love going outside. My partner also has to do certain tasks for me now, because every time I did it, I would have panic attacks.

I don't want this fear to control my life. If you've recovered or are recovering from your phobia/s, please share your story and/or any resources that helped you.

@DreamsofAuratus Hi dreams, welcome to 7cups. Glad to have you here with us and thank you for opening up with us about your phobia. It seems like you are experiencing distress related to your phobia right now. Avoiding certain spaces and relying on others for support can take a toll emotionally. If I can ask you,  what thoughts tend to go through your mind when you feel panicked?

@ASilentObserver

Hello. Thank you for the warm welcome and the kind response.

There is really no thoughts that go through my mind when I am panicked. The fear is overwhelming; my cognition is completely destroyed and I act on instinct, which usually involves running into a small space and trying to stay as quiet as possible.
