Anxiety about my age and going back to school
I’m 23 and starting school again for the first time since 2021. I was a freshman in college when we went on lockdown and I tried to stay in online classes but I just couldn’t do them. I dropped out in 2021, got kicked out for it, and I have been working two jobs to afford my own rent ever since. Now I have financial help for school and I’m going back, but I have been too anxious about my age. Everyone in my classes is younger than me and not only do I feel regret for what I did but I am envious of these younger adults who didn’t have to go through what I did. I wish I could have done this all sooner, but Covid ripped it away from me. I am trying, though, to find a career even though I can’t do it very fast because I’m still working full time.
I might add that I’ve been overly fixated on age lately. I ask a lot of people their age, for example online and if they’re younger than me and doing bigger things, or they’re some kind of artist or animator or something, it sends me into a spiral. I feel so helpless and I need to get out of this mindset. It’s been ruining the things I love doing because I just feel too embarrassed to enjoy anything, even things like eating, working, painting, playing games, etc. These things used to be my escape but I cant enjoy them anymore because of this chest crushing anxiety.

No one is keeping score and their accomplishments or failures have no impact on what you can and will do... The world of social media and such has made many feel so far behind based on often false info.

Do not worry about your age... it does not matter. You have something more valuable then all these younger people ... experience.......... being able to do what you need balance 2 jobs and such to make rent and make it thru life. everyone has different strengths
I hope whatever you have chosen will be a rewarding education and career....
@parivolans When I read the title I thought you were like 40. But my advice is still the same. You can’t do it any earlier. You have the opportunity to do it now. There are many people who struggle to get to where you are now or just don’t have the opportunity at all. Your expectations are rigid. Change your perspective or b**** about it.
