I do not think that your boyfriend will be able to independently abandon this dependence. You definitely need to help him. Try seeking help at alcoholics hotline https://addictionresource.com/alcohol/treatment/hotlines/ where they will explain how to behave in such situations, and they will provide moral support to your boyfriend and will be sent to a suitable rehabilitation center
