There's too much happening
I'm really struggling to stay sober at the moment. I haven't drank in months but it's getting really hard to keep going. I kinda need some encouraging words to get me through this
@Elylouise You know that drinking can give you two hours of relief but the flip side of that might be hours, weeks or years of suffering. You know deep down that there is so much more in life for you. An existence you long for. You’re caught between a quick temporary fix vs where you are emotionally right now. Take a deep breath and don’t fight what you are feeling. It’s when we want to cover over that feeling that we drink. The feeling is uncomfortable BUT it’s just a feeling and it will pass. Focus on gratitude and THIS moment. And if you can, do something enjoyable, exercise, eat a whole thing of ice cream, call a friend. Be gentle with yourself. It’s ok to be feeling what you’re feeling. Nothing wrong with that. The light in this darkness is just not taking the boogie man so seriously. He will fade away unless you let fear and continuous thoughts make him more powerful. Breath, gratitude, be gentle and good to yourself, and remember this too will pass.
I know plenty of people that suffer from your condition and many that have made it out of alcohol addiction. I know life can get tough sometimes and the easy solution to that is drinking. I have had similar problems in the past and would love to talk if you’d like!
- @Elylouise Hey, first off, it’s important that you’re acknowledging these feelings and reaching out—that takes strength. Remember that recovery is a journey, not a race. The fact that you’ve made it this far without a drink is a testament to your strength and resilience. Take a few deep breaths, and remind yourself why you started this journey in the first place
