Quitting coke
Hi. I had a years long coke habit. Usually weekly use, but it got out of hand during the pandemic. I recently tried to quit and had a massive panic attack that caused me to lose my job. I quit immediately after, and am clean 3 months now. Any tips on staying clean?
Thinking of the reasons you quit. Knowing very well the possibilities of what could cause you to use and avoiding those at all costs. But then also replacing those things with new healthy habits. Read, find a group or take a class. Definitely finding an accountability partner. Go explore. All the reasons you quit so you could live a better life, go do the things come prevented you from doing.
And by the way
GOOD JOB!!!
@downinthedumps2023 Hi. I’m sorry to hear you’re coke habit got out of control during the pandemic and that although you’ve recently tried to quit you suffered from a massive panic attack and that you lost your job as a consequence. I think it shows remarkable strength that you quit by yourself and have been clean for 3 months.
Do you have a sponsor or go to any meetings? This might be an option. I think you need to take one day at a time you’ve already come so far and done amazingly but each day will be different and some days will be more of a struggle especially if something stressful happens.
My ex was on heroin and has now been clean for 7 years but he went to rehab and did it that way.
Be kind to yourself and realise how far you have come. It’s ok to ask for help and support if you need it. We are always here to listen at 7 cups in a loving and none judgemental way so please do reach out if you need us. But can I just say without it sounding patronising a massive well done for coming all this way, especially on your own. I think it’s important that you are not alone in this and get as much support as you need. Here for you.
Thank you. I don’t feel any need to ever take it again, but now I’m depressed and anxious and waiting for medication for that to work. My whole life has been turned upside down. It’s hard to get through each day even though I know I’ve made progress. 😔
@downinthedumps2023 I am glad that you don’t feel any need to take coke again, that’s a step in the right direction.
I’m sorry to hear you are suffering from depression and anxiety that must be very painful to cope with on a daily basis. It is good you are on medication but I can imagine the frustration you must feel waiting for that to work.
You say that your whole life has been turned upside down and that you are struggling to get through each day. It is good that you recognise the progress you have made and want to keep making progress and not want to regress. What have you found that helps up till now? Have you checked out the growth path on 7 cups? You might find that helpful too.
WOW congrats!n that’s amazing. My mom was in the same situation years ago. She stood away from the people and places that reminded her of that habit. She moved and stayed away. Therapy helps too.
