Hey everyone its good to see you all again! In case you were wondering yes it is I @AriannaPink (Arianna, Ari, or Aria) back with our very last spooky Tuesday check-in for the year! All font will turn back to normal until around Thanksgiving time starting November 6th. This will also be my last Tuesday check-in for at least right now I will be switching to Wednesdays starting in the first week of November (Thank you for switching with me once again @NoneTheWiser!). Now if you missed last weeks check-in, and would like to tune in on what story was given, and what we last discussed please feel free to click here! Otherwise lets just jump right in to our main check-in question so we can get started with our story for the week!

Main Check-In Question: How are you doing today overall?

Okay now that thats out of the way get cozy, and comfy everyone because we will be starting the story time shortly!

Quick Little Disclaimer: While I tried my very hardest to edit all possible triggers out keep in mind these stories do come from real survivors of domestic abuse so if you feel like you may get triggered from this type of content please answer the Main Check-in Question listed above โฌ†๏ธ, and then click off here for your own mental health. P.S. Thank you @MonBon for looking over everything it is much appreciated! ๐Ÿ’œ...

Like always the font will temporarily turn back to normal both out of respect for the survivor who courageously shared her story, but also for your reading convenience during the story portion of this thread.

Now without further ado here is Janes Story!

At twenty-five, I managed a gift shop, owned my own car, established good credit and maintained a very active social life. At twenty-seven, I married a man from a small country town. Being so swept away, I ignored the other side of Prince Charming. As time passed, the abuse became more frequent and more intense. Each time I found employment, he would become unbearable, including phoning me at work and yelling obscenities.

Six years of marriage took us to a rented house in the country. I was not allowed to use his car, even to take our two children to the doctor for emergency care.

February 1987, he went after me yet again. Our five-year-old son ran to the phone, and dialed our countrys number for the emergency services. The operator traced the call and sent a county sheriffs deputy to the house. Despite the bruises and visible marks, the police were not able to help me.

During the next year, I obtained a car and began planning my escape. He had the phone disconnected. April 1988, the abuser flew into a rage, so I took our two children and drove 15 miles to a pay phone. Every shelter I contacted was full. I had nowhere else to turn because over the years, I had become alienated from my family and friends. After walking around the grocery store for 4 hours, I returned home.

Three days later, after the abusers usual early morning rage, our son left for school and our three year old daughter was hiding under blankets, shivering and crying because she was so frightened of her own father. My husband left for work and I took our daughter, drove to a phone and called a domestic violence shelter. I was told to take my son out of school, pack what I could in my car, and I drove 30 miles to the nearest city.

In the three weeks my children and I were at the shelter, we began to restructure our lives. I found employment, housing, childcare, counseling and legal advice.

Because the domestic violence shelter was there, my children and I are alive.

Now to finish up this check-in I have a couple of questions for you guys...

#1. What was your favorite part of this story?

And #2. How do you feel after reading this story?

Thank you so much everyone for reading this story, participating in this check-in, and taking a chance on me! I will hopefully see you guys next week!!!

- @AriannaPink

I am checking in after being off of the site for some time. It is good to be back and I am hopeful that being here will again be helpful. Overall today...i am feeling quite tired and depression is beginning to set in with the season change. I am using art and relaxing games as well as light hearted TV shows playing in the background to help cope.

I hope all of you are doing well or at least able to cope effectively.

Appy

Hi Appy its nice to meet you Im Arianna thank you for checking in! ๐ŸŽƒ... I feel so honored to be able to be the one in charge of the first Trauma check-in youve participated in since being back to 7 Cups! Welcome back by the way, I hope you find all the support you need/desire/expect out of 7 Cups that had you come back here! I also hope that we do not disappoint you!

Im sorry to hear that you are experiencing some depression, and fatigue due to the season changing to fall. Ive never experienced this situation myself but I have heard it happen to other people so I want you to know that what your going through is completely normal, and I hope things get better for you. I/we will definitely be cheering you on every step of the way!

Im glad youve discovered some healthy coping mechanisms such as making art (Im assuming), playing relaxing games, and also watching lighthearted television shows! I hope you keep these things up as theyre amazing options, and I hope they help you feel at least a little bit better! ๐Ÿงก...

Thank you so much for your well wishes regarding the whole Trauma Sub-Community it is very much appreciated! Obviously I cant speak for the entire population but as of myself I am doing well thank you for asking! ๐ŸŽƒ...

Sending lots of hugs & good vibes,

- @AriannaPink ๐Ÿ’œ...

I am not doing so well, but I think that is likely in part due to the fact I have tonsilitis. I am also struggling a bit with the fact that still being involved with my family is very triggering. My sisters eating disorder is getting worse and my father is still being abusive towards my mother which frankly scares me as neither my sister nor I live in the house anymore. Neither of them is willing to admit to there being a real problem and my mother encouraging my sisters eating issues is hard to watch. My mums barely eating either at the moment. They are both adults and they have to decide what to do with their own lives, but I am really struggling with having to watch all this stuff again. I moved out 5 years ago for a reason.

Regarding the story:
1. My fav part of the story was that she left with her kids, got away and it sounds like was able to build a life for herself.
2. Sad knowing my mother didn't and will not leave my dad despite the fact he is controlling and abusive. I wish I could have had a mother who put me first :).

@Lilibuth12

Hi Lili its nice to meet you Im Arianna ๐ŸŽƒ thank you so much for checking in! ๐Ÿ’œ... Im sorry to hear youre currently sick with tonsillitis I know thats gotta cause a killer sore throat right about now! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ Well I hope you feel much better soon!!! ๐Ÿงก...

Im sorry to hear about the situation with your mother no one deserves to get hurt especially by the ones they love. Im also sorry to hear about your sister. Eating disorders are so complex, and are often eventually addictive its just so sad ๐Ÿ˜•... I hope one day they both realize their situations are not safe or healthy so they can both get the help they need, and clearly deserve ๐ŸŽƒ... Im sorry to hear that your father is still abusive even with you girls grown, and out of the house I hope things get better for your mother.

You know no matter how old family members get its normal to worry, and struggle with seeing bad things happen to them, and thats simply because you love them, and want them to be okay. So I get where youre coming from, and I want to reassure you that what youre going through is normal. But Im glad you also realize that these two women are grown adults, and have to unfortunately make their own decisions good or bad. If the worry or stress ever feels like its to much, and you feel like you need to talk about it with someone 1-1 please feel free to either click the โ€˜connect now button, or feel free to browse our โ€˜browse listeners page by clicking here! (Expert tip: to find a listener perfect for you, you can use our special filter option by clicking the blue button called โ€˜more filters!) Also if you would like to discuss whatever is bothering you in a group setting you are more than welcome to come back here to the Trauma Sub-Community at any time, and also 7 Cups has a Eating Disorders Sub-Community as well you can find that by clicking here. If you wish please feel free to explore both sub-communities, I promise we wont bite ya lol! Oh and also just one more thing we also have group support meetings that we call discussions around here. I havent seen any lately for domestic abuse, or eating disorders but just in case you want to check yourself you can see upcoming discussions on our community calendar by clicking here!

Story Questions Section: โฌ‡๏ธ...

#1. I agree the fact that she gained the courage to leave with her children, and establish a new life for herself and them is amazing!!!

#2. Im sorry the story made you sad but I can understand why it did. Im sure its very hard to admit what happened in your family, and kind of compare families but hey look at you now, youre a grown amazing human being that made it out of that house alive, and is now so independent! You did that all on your own, and I hope youre proud of yourself for that. I know Im sure proud of you!!! ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ...

Sending lots of hugs & good vibes,

- @AriannaPink ๐Ÿงก...

P.S. I know moving out despite it happening 5 years ago probably still has some cons simply regarding the fact of worrying about your mother a little bit more in different ways than you might of at staying at your childhood home, but Im SO glad you did make the decision to move out those few years ago because you deserve to be safe too. Please dont ever doubt that! ๐Ÿ’œ...
