Pride and stigma
Welcome to the P & G community, This month is pride month! 🌈Across cups there are a range of events being hosted to celebrate this, in collaboration with the LGBTQ+/MOGII sub-community this is a week long forum event Here
As an introduction to our event this post will be a discussion in to stigma and issues faced :)
We're discussing the LGBTQ+ community today and the stigma that has surrounded it
The term “stigma” means a mark of disgrace associated with a particular circumstance, quality, or person.
The LGBTQ+ community has been fighting for their rights since 1965 and continues to fight for their rights till this date
As pride month brings awareness to the LGBTQ+ community it also brings opportunity to explore the challenges it faces and has overcame. A large challenge has been stigma surrounding this community...for example For example in some media LGBTQ+ people are portrayed negatively Some TV shows have portrayed LGBTQ+ community to be violent and murderous.
Besides general stereotypes different identities of the LGBTQ community also have different stigmas surrounding them.
Stigmas can have negative effects on the LGBTQ+ community
It can cause the society to be reluctant to accept them. The members of the LGBTQ+ community can become victims to discriminations and bullying due to the stigma surrounding them it can also cause theirmental health to be hampered.
The discrimination can cause them to not get the essential support and acceptance as individuals, impacting aspects of life such as marriage, medical attention and abuse
Beside stigma from the society LGBTQ+ community can also go through self stigmatization which can cause them to be reluctant to accept themselves, try to hide themselves. And not reach out for help when needed
While the LGBTQ+ community is a heavily stigmatized community it shouldn't stop them for fighting for their rights. This month is a great opportunity to delve into stigmas that still heavily affect some aspects of the community and work to make both cups and wider society a more accepting and loving place
For the LGBTQ community like many minorities stigma can be hard to fight but with more open mindedness people can come to realise and work through personal prejudices and help support members this month and continue past this month to fight for their rights and personal & societal acceptance and peace. While they fight for their rights its our duty to support them in their fight for their rights. For a better inclusive future.

I'm worried that the stigma of the LGBTQ community may go as high as the Supreme Court now that Roe vs Wade has been overturned. Not here to whip up any political discussion so please don't go there. I just care about 'the people.' I have a sister who is gay. I pray nothing happens to over turn the freedoms they have fought so long and hard for. Love and hugs to all LGBTQ who are members/listeners here
