Hobbies Help!
by MistyMagic
Last post

...See more Hobbies Help Our Mental Health! Mental health and self-care are intricately linked, and engaging in hobbies can be a powerful tool to support both.  Hobbies are very personal. Each of us likes and chooses something different for our hobbies, and the choice we make can however affect our mental health. Some hobbies can actually raise our stress and frustration levels, especially worrying about getting something right. The painter that can’t capture the painting they want, or the musician that needs to practice for hours every day. So choosing the right hobby for the right time can help to improve our mental health. Having a mix of relaxing and energetic, mindful and chaotic can all help to ease the stresses and pressures of our lives.  Here are a few hobbies known to benefit mental health:-: * Art Therapy: Engaging in artistic activities such as drawing, painting, or sculpting can promote relaxation and self-expression, which are beneficial for managing stress and improving mood. A study published in the Journal of the American Art Therapy Association found that art therapy can reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression. At 7 Cups we have a dedicated Arts & Crafts Community Here * Gardening: Spending time outdoors and caring for plants has been shown to reduce stress and improve overall well-being. Research published in the Journal of Health Psychology suggests that gardening can promote mood enhancement and stress reduction. Gardening is a topic in Hobby Zone so please post Here * Music Therapy: Listening to or creating music can have a profound impact on mental health by reducing stress, promoting relaxation, and enhancing emotional expression. A systematic review published in the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews concluded that music therapy can effectively reduce symptoms of depression. Music and Dance Community Here [https://www.7cups.com/forum/music/]  * Physical Exercise: Engaging in physical activities such as walking, running, or yoga can improve both physical and mental health. Regular exercise has been shown to reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression. We have a Sports & Fitness topic Here * Reading & Writing: Immersing oneself in a good book can provide an escape from everyday stressors and promote relaxation. Research published in the Journal of Clinical Psychology found that reading can be an effective form of stress relief, leading to decreased levels of cortisol, the stress hormone. Reading and Writing Community is Here * Cooking and Baking: Cooking or baking can be a creative outlet that allows individuals to express themselves while also providing a sense of accomplishment. Research has shown that engaging in cooking-related activities can improve mood and increase feelings of happiness. Share your recipes Here [https://www.7cups.com/forum/hobbyzone/FoodRecipestoShare_2652/] or share cooking tips Here  [https://www.7cups.com/forum/hobbyzone/Foodallaboutfood_1139/] * Outdoor Activities: Spending time outdoors and engaging in activities such as hiking, camping, or birdwatching can promote feelings of connection to nature and provide opportunities for physical activity and relaxation. Research suggests that spending time in natural environments can reduce stress and improve cognitive function  One special way to make our hobbies work for our mental wealth more is to ‘mindful hobby’. Using simple mindfulness techniques to improve the benefit of our hobby time. Being present in the moment, concentrating on what we are doing rather than letting our minds race. ------------------------- I hope that this has given you all food for thought,  perhaps you will look for a new hobby, or perhaps you may look at your hobbies in a more respectful way;  they are doing you and your mental health more good than you may realise!

Hobbies and Motivation!

April 22nd
...See more This is Motivational March and so I wanted to discuss with you about your hobbies and what motivates you to get started! Often I find it hard to motivate myself and so I might look at doing other things for a while. If I am in a 'hobby slump' and just want to find another project then that is exactly what I do. So often I might have many 'WIP' work in progress. I also know sometimes I look at all my yarn and knitting needles and groan! I love knitting but sometimes I just want to watch tv! I found my mojo when I wanted a new beanie hat, it was something I could easily knit AND watch tv lol! And, of course I got a warm hat :) So please take a moment to answer the following questions, of perhaps just read and think about them. ? Could you please tell me how you motivate yourself to spend time on your hobbies? ? Which hobby do you feel motivates you the most? ? Which hobby do you find the most rewarding? Hogwarts Mystery
by Disneywoman
Last post
...See more Anyone else plays Hogwarts Mystery?     Synopsis of the game:    You play a character, called Jacob's sibling (you can choose to play as a sister or brother of Jacob) and you have to default some "Cursed Vaults" in order to find Jacob who been missing for some time you're Hogwarts years are from Sept 1984 -June 1991.  In Year 2 you get the option to play Qudditch (4 seasons and you play  in all 4 postions- Chaser,  Beater, Keeper and Seeker) -Yes choose to play Qudditch-it's good for reasons. But the only confusing thing is when you're trying to level up with friends you meet at school,  you have to either try to have them overcome something (home sickness,  shyness or not knowing their own strength),  or you have to know something, like ( toads, dragons, creatures, or ways of concealment, or ways to get around rules) or distract them somehow.    in one friend case (through Quidditch) you have to think like someone training for a Karate championship like in the Karate Kid movies.  Examples during Gobstones (one of 3 ways to level up friendships)  "I must defeat myself", "If the universe wills it" and the "The gobstone and I are one"  ________________________________________________________ There's also are side quests of various kinds.  Both with wild animals you can "adopt"  or pets you can buy (helps you with energy you need for the game) and there's other quests like dating, or  dealing with the Mirror of Erised, or trying to gather people in Godric's Hallow who were friends with James and Lilly Potter. or becoming an Angamius, or helping a friend who is a werewolf,  or helping a friend, who thought their friend died.   There's also themed Halloween and Chirstmas quests for when they happen. in real life.    What's interesting is depending on your actions during quests your  talking later on might or might not make a reference to previous quests. There's 2 quests related to Lucius and Draco's  being at Hogwarts for reasons. One is you and your own (Female) version of Draco  (Merula) have to baby-sit 6-7 year old Draco.  It doesn't go well and Dobby almost get accused of something.      In the next quest you're suppose to be baby-sitting him again, but you get caught up in a sort of mystery that's happening w/ Slytherins because Merula was suppose to help baby-sit w/ you like last time.     When Draco is complaing about being "baby-sat" in you, "Jacob's Sibling" says "You weren't too happy about being baby-sat last time either" making a reference to the previous quest. It also works with dates, that if you go out dating with someone they mention it the next time. _____________________________________________________________________________________ The only annoying thing is the cost of energy and lack of time to build up friendships due to the cost of Diamonds.  But otherwise I really like the game! I'm having to use a emulator  on my PC since I don't have an actual mobile phone

People think it's Weird/bad to have arranged marriages in a life-sim game
by Disneywoman
Last post
...See more I support a Canadian Work-in-Progress life sim game called Paralives    Life-sims are suppose to represent life in some cultures in the world today that these cultures include arranged marriages.  Now and then someone (me of others) brings  up the topic of Arranged marriages as a possiblity in the game.   But people think it's a "forced marriage" "child marriage"., etc.   In other words it's bad or icky or weird.    Just like in those cultures they think that love marriage is weird    I mean when people bring it up, we only talking about families arranging the match and the people suggesting it also allow the option  for the betrothed parities to not have to go through with the arranged marriage if they don't wish it.  Since in some cultures, brides and grooms get to say "no" to suitors/marriage  But the people who hate the idea are still fine with the options of blind dates and dating apps which to be honest is one step away from your family arranging your a match to marry.   How is one fine and the other isn't? It's not like we're  saying the marriage has to happen.  There's an arranged marriage mod for the Sims 4 game.   With that mod  that adults in one house hold can arrange marriages for child or teen sims to someone in the other house old.     Children sims can only be betrothed to children sims,  but Teens can be betrothed to Teen and up.  But in both cases the child or teen sim can NOT get married until the children or teen turn into Young Adult sims.    Also with the Teen sim they have the option of "Refusing to Marry (name of other sim)."  There's people who think in life-sims games  we already "arranged marriage" the sims because we, the player,  put Character C with Caracter F let's say.  But in a game like Sims 4 you have to cheat the levels up to full for Character C to Propose to Character F  and then you get them married and then you have to then cheat the romantic level and put it down to 0% to make it look like their no love.   It's a pain having to do it.  The point is that it would  be an option the people who don't want it wouldn't have to play with it.  Its like why there's going to be breastfeeding and bottle feeding in Paralives.  Or at some point down the road, there a 70% of disabilities being an option-but people who don't want to play with those options wouldn't be forced too.  But when the topic gets heated the mods ask us to change the topic.  But yet they allow other topics like breastfeeding, which some people think is "weird", "icky" or bad,  or even disabilities as "bad",   so if we can talk about breastfeeding and disabilities as options   we  should be allowed to talk about the option of arranged marriage in Paralives as an option as I said before they will allow for dating apps, and blind dates which in my opinion is just one step away from  an arranged marriage.

My Pokemon Pics + Two Questions
by AshleyGamer1995

December 11th
...See more As I am a huge personal fan in Pokemon for many years, in this second related-thread I create, allow me to share several pictures of Pokemon and you tell me what you think of them. :) I know I've already shared a few from my other thread but I'll show again anyway for a reminder, alongside new ones I haven't presented first time. ~ Victini (Gen V) ~ ~ Samurott (Gen V) ~ ~ Virizion (Gen V) ~ ~ Reshiram (Gen V, left) and Flygon (Gen III, right) ~ ~ Manectric (Gen III) ~ ~ Lugia (Gen II) ~ ~ Suicune (Gen II) ~ ~ Latios (Gen III, blue male one) and Latias (Gen III, red female one) ~ ~ Pikachu (Gen I) ~ So I hope these were very good pics, which I have saved in my offline pic collection. Also I have two questions to ask, which I should know the answers for (since I haven't read 7 Cups's guidelines yet): 1. Is it possible to post GIF pics and have them animated? I mean, is there not even a way to choose any GIF pic I like, rather than only the ones from tenor? For some reason, picking a GIF from my offline collection is not supported... Which is odd, since other sites allow it otherwise as well. :O 2. Is it OK for me to post pictures of myself on this site (whether as real photos or drawings that represent me)? You see, I also have paid commission arts of myself with Pokemon together, so I was wondering, can they be shown on this site? I think it would be great if that was allowed, so I can further spread my passion on the Pokemon series, along with the fact that I enjoy seeing myself interacting with characters because it's special to me.

National Video Game Day: Gaming is Not Just for Fun!
by EmotionsListener
Last post
December 3rd
...See more Video games can often be a lot of fun, but sometimes people give them a bad reputation and fail to recognize some of the many benefits that can come from playing video games. So today for National Video Game Day I’m going to highlight some of those potential benefits. [image reads “Press Start”] Socialization. While there is a stigma about gaming being socially isolating, the rise in online multiplayer games has actually increased socializing and group problem solving. But even without online, video games often serve as a reason to get together with your friends in person and play. Leadership. Leading often requires strong decision making skills, especially in crisis situations, games frequently require a player to rapidly take in information and react and adapt quickly and so practice and strengthen these skills. Many games also reward other leadership traits and so motivate players to take on similar roles in real life as well. Physical activity. While not all games require full body interaction, even those that only require a handheld controller can motivate us to get up and move. For example playing virtual basketball can translate into wanting to practice playing basketball in real life as well, especially for younger children. [image of a video game controller] Vision. Did you know gaming in moderation may actually improve your vision? Some studies have shown players developed greater discernment between varying shades of grey, while others focused on strengthening a player’s weaker eye. Though I believe the key word in this may be moderation. Pain management. One may think that distraction is the primary source of this benefit, but apparently gaming can also produce a pain-killing response in our brains, particularly when a game is more immersive. So much so that virtual reality systems may become an important pain management tool in hospitals one day, guess that’s another possible win for gaming! Quality surgeons. Speaking of hospitals, video games are also helping to create better surgeons. Studies have found that laparoscopic specialists who played for more than three hours a week tended to make almost a third less errors in practice than those who did not. Which may be less surprising when we consider the nature of laparoscopy. There are a number of other possible benefits to gaming, including reducing stress, increasing cognitive functioning, curbing cravings, helping with dyslexia, improving balance for those with multiple sclerosis and more. So maybe gaming isn’t just fun after all. [image reads “Game Over You Win!”] Happy National Video Game Day! So if you feel up to it, hit pause, set down the controller and join in by answering the following questions before you get back to your game: * Do you have a favourite video game and/or gaming system? What makes it your favourite? * What are some of the benefits you’ve personally experienced from gaming? * One of the words that came up was moderation. How often do you find you play? Do you feel like that is too much? Just enough? Not as much as you’d like? What do you think would be a healthy balance for you?
