More Info on Community Mods

Kate March 12th, 2019

Hello 7 cups community!

As you know, we are now integrating paid community moderators into our group support rooms. I thought it would be helpful to provide a bit more info to address some of the questions that have come up.

What is the role of the community mod?

- Community mods are there to help ensure the safety and positive environment in group support rooms, but are not there to replace existing mods. Community mods are instructed to step back if there is a volunteer moderator in the room and let them take the lead unless a conflict arises that they need to help de-escalate.

- Community mods are responsible for responding to the mod emergency forms while on their shift, so please use the form located in the Chatroom Rules if you are in a room that requires mod assistance. More information on how to use the emergency forms here.

- Community mods all have the Doorkeeper Badge so if you need to lead a discussion in a pop-up room, you may contact a community mod to open and close the room for you.

- Community mods are not available to provide 1-1 listener support.

Are community mods on support teams?

- Community mods are not part of any support teams or subcommunity teams. They do not onboard or manage room supporters, group mods or lead discussions.

- Questions about specific support teams should be directed to Support Team Mentors of that team or Group Support Admins (@ASilentObserver, @Heather225)

Why are the mods anonymous?

- As you know boundaries in our community are super important. Having boundaries with roles, self-care..etc are incredibly helpful. Please respect the anonymity of community mods.

Something tells me volunteer mods are in danger of being taken over by payed mods

@SociableClementine81101 From everything I have seen and read, it looks like they are two totally separate and independent roles. Volunteer moderators are the ones doing the support teams, discussions, etc. The community mods are just there to help keep things safe for all. It's a new position, so it will be interesting to see what the community mods end up doing, but I don't think us volunteers are having to be worried about things. heart
