Volunteering helps you feel better?

Many scientists have tried experiments to see if volunteering improves people's sense of well being.

  • What experiences have you had with volunteering that helped you feel more worthwhile?
  • If you could do a public service project and add something to make your town or city better, what would you add?

@soulsings

Volunteering certainly helps in boosting morale and overall well-being in general, I agree. ❤

I've tried some ground work prior to 7 cups, it was mostly collecting donations (monetary and non-monetary) for the needy, truly gratifying to do something for others. And then 7 cups ofcourse, hehe one of the bestest decisions ever to be a someone for people, and make them feel like a somebody. ❤

Thanks for this post, Soul. Feel free to share about your experiences also. <3

@soulsings. I do a little bit of volunteering here at 7cups . I do find it helpful and worthwhile.

I might like to do some volunteer work in my community at the animal shelter someday.

@soulsings

I have been volunteering on 7 Cups for about a week now, and it has really helped me improve my physical, mental, and emotional state. Listening and giving comfort to people all over the world who need it, really provided me with a space to grow my empathy skills. And sometimes, the comfort I give to the members, gives me comfort too. Knowing that I am not alone feeling the way I do, creates a safer space in my head because then I'll think that it's okay to feel.

I've had my share of trauma, and counselling, and even logging on 7 Cups as a member. None of those really worked to release my negativity. Turns out, being a listener myself was the way to go.

I did some outreach program back when I was in school. It felt good to give food to poor families that really can't provide for their children. Especially food that those kids needs to grow healthy. We had a small program and gave out food pack and groceries. It felt wonderful to give back even in a small way.

Seeing their happy faces that they will be able to eat three meals a day for a while. :)

I used to work for a United Way agency that helped people pay for their utilities and rent if they had a crisis. This agency also helped people find other resources in our community that is available to low-income households. I performed intakes and counseled clients, made refers and followed up on most of them. I worked there fora long time. I have been medically retired from this job for almost 10 years. I miss it very much.

I have so much of this information in my brain, and find myself helping people online, via Facebook, on the community pages. Since the pandemic, so many of my previous clients are still homebound, they still do not go out much, like me. It does feel good to continue to help them
