David and I moved down here almost 5 years ago because of his COPD and because of 2 grandsons how were adopted out of our family. We get to see them from time to time, but really - not that much. The rest of the family is 9 driving hours away. Since the pandemic started back toward the in of 2019, I haven't see any of my family in person. Then, last month my son died of cancer. Was expected but that doesn't take away the pain of loss. And my grandsons here, just lost their adoptive father. Nice man...we met him. Just not in a good place right now. Know very few people in the area...

Back in 2020 I made face masks for the school district and the small hospital here. So I have reached out. Not a total introvert. How are you guys dealing with isolation? Keeping in touch...

@hounddog2021

I went in once. It's kind of a new concept for me. Short and sweet support. Have a question. If you're in there and you've shared once, and something else comes up for you later in the chat, can you share again?

I do like being able to support others too. One thing I find hard though is the part about not giving advice. Sometimes my encouragement might look like that but I don't mean to be an amateur therapist. I try to share what "I've experienced." Hope that's okay. Will try and come in again sometime. Thank you for the invite.

@EmbStitcher33. Hi I wanted to let you know that we also have discussions in 50plus. I find it helps with feelings of isolation. I’ll try to post a link with the schedule.

For the combined schedule for mindfulness and 50+ discussions check here: https://www.7cups.com/forum/50OverCommunity_193/TeamToolsandTeamUpdates_1705/50plusDiscussionsScheduleandTopics_207920/

@EmbStitcher33. Hi Embstitcher. I have been mostly been dealing OK with isolation but the last couple of months have really got to me. Mine is a complicated story. Between COVID and taking care of my 90 year old Mum who has dementia, I have been separated from my Canadian partner for 2 years (she is in Canada, I am in Australia). I have lots of hobbies that I can indulge in at home, but not being able to get out much has made me lose a lot of interest. So I do my best to get out for a drive or walk for a change of scenery. Sometimes it doesn't take much to refresh my interest in things. Making myself do it isn't always easy but it's usually worth it.

Best wishes

@Geoff1957

Bless you deeply for being there for your mum. Wow, that is quite the separation... Australia and Canada. I hope you two can get back together again soon. I agree with you. Sometimes you just gotta make yourself do something. If my heart is all wound up in depression...sometimes I have to use my head to get myself out of my own depression hole. Not always easy, but when I concentrate on it from my mind and focus on what I want to do mentally I can make myself get through my sedentary wall. Again, your dedication to your mum is commendable. ❤️ 😊 Too many elderly waste away all alone in nursing homes.
