Struggles of being a man in India
Tw - mentions of self harm and suicide.
Men's issues in India encompass a range of social, cultural, and economic challenges that men may face. These issues often intersect with broader societal dynamics and gender norms. Some significant men's issues in India include:
Mental Health and Emotional Well-being: Men may experience societal pressure to conform to traditional notions of masculinity, which can discourage emotional expression and seeking help for mental health issues. This can lead to higher rates of untreated mental health problems among men.
Suicide: Suicide rates among men in India are disproportionately high, often attributed to factors like social isolation, financial stress, and an inability to express emotions openly.
Workplace Stress: Men in India often face immense pressure to provide for their families, leading to high levels of workplace stress and related health issues.
Health Disparities: Men may neglect their health due to societal expectations, leading to higher rates of tobacco and alcohol consumption, and reluctance to seek medical care.
Education: While there is a significant focus on girls' education and empowerment, boys in certain regions and socioeconomic backgrounds may face challenges in accessing quality education.
Legal Biases: Legal biases can affect men in areas such as divorce, custody, and alimony, as well as laws related to sexual harassment and domestic violence that may not adequately protect men.
Fatherhood and Parental Rights: Men's involvement in parenting and custody rights can be restricted due to gender stereotypes and legal barriers.
Substance Abuse: Men in India are often more vulnerable to substance abuse due to factors like peer pressure, societal norms, and stress.
Lack of Support Networks: Men may lack safe spaces to discuss their challenges and seek guidance due to stigma surrounding vulnerability.
Domestic Violence: While women are more often victims of domestic violence, men can also be victims, and their experiences may be underreported due to societal expectations and stereotypes.
It's important to recognize that addressing men's issues doesn't diminish the importance of addressing women's issues or gender equality. Rather, it highlights the need for a comprehensive approach that promotes a healthier and more equitable society for everyone.
Efforts to address men's issues should be combined with initiatives that challenge harmful gender norms, promote open communication, and provide support systems for men's well-being. This can contribute to a more inclusive and balanced society where everyone can thrive.

I hear you. It is true that men in India can experience these things. It is great that you want to promote open communication and the provision of support systems for men's mental wellbeing. One of the things I love about 7 cups is that gender is completely irrelevant, unless someone wishes to make it relevant. In fact, this is true of all labels at 7 cups. Everyone is welcome to get support here. 7 cups has demonstrated that this is possible and I look forward to it spreading to the real world.
I wonder if you personally have experienced mental health issues or problems with stress. How did you find support?
