Volunteering is a chance to make a real difference in your community. As a listener, I want to learn more about resilience, struggle, and the power of empathy. I want to be able to listen to members' stories and connect with a diverse group of individuals. Personally, I know several people who have/currently are suicidal. I find that simply asking "How are you doing? Are you thinking of hurting yourself?" can help. In my experience, people with suicidal thoughts are desperate for someone to recognize and accept their feelings. I want to be able to be that person for someone.
