I see this as two questions, if you'll indulge me. 1. Should I always put my best effort forth? YES!! Doing the best you can is good for your self-esteem, builds skills, and shows others what you're capable of. 2. How should I handle the feeling that I'm being taken advantage of? That depends on what the specifics of your situation are, and what other options are available to you. In some cases, speaking to a supervisor can help. Sometimes even letting the offender know that you feel the way you do can help. In others, it might be a good idea to find a new place to work. Either way, I hope you find success and peace!

Working hard for yourself wouldn't mean that you're being taken advantage of. I believe that if you love what you're doing and you're working hard for a possible promotion, then I think it's worth working for. The most important thing is knowing your worth and understanding the boundaries that you set for yourself and people you work with. Many times I think that people may give up because they feel as if they're working too hard, but I think that if you keep working at it you could possibly end up with lets say a promotion. But if you feel like you are being taken advantage of and don't see yourself going in that direction, then that is a completely different situation. It all depends on you
