Depression can be a very debilitating feeling, especially when it comes to searching for a job. It's common to be depressed because you are unhappy with your current job or to talk down to yourself because you are unemployed. Being depressed and unemployed can leave you in a very vulnerable state and spending too much time feeling this way can seriously impact your self esteem and motivation to find a new job. In order to limit the impact depression has on your job search you need to be aware when you feel depressed and understand that it is okay and normal to feel that way. This will better prepare you to develop a way to "snap out of it" when those feelings become overwhelming. Read up on what makes people feel depressed and check out 7cups guide to depression to increase your awareness and ability to cope with the feeling. Once you have nailed down your depression it's important to ask yourself some questions: Why am I depressed? How is being depressed helpful to my job search? What can I do RIGHT NOW that will make me feel differently? This should bring you to a place where you can choose to feel differently. You can choose to bring your attention back to your job search which should help build your self esteem and confidence. You may become quickly discouraged and depressed again - but that's okay! Depression often occurs in cycles and you shouldn't expect to break the cycle immediately or every time for that matter. But the good thing is that searching for a job happens to be the perfect opportunity to directly combat the feelings of depression! Refreshing your resume and review/updates your skills and accomplishments as part of the process should help you realize your potential worth to a future employer. Striking interest from potential employers is all about building value in yourself as it relates to the position you are going for. Thoughts of the future should bring you out of the past where your depression is likely rooted - you can begin to envision yourself in your new job/career and accomplishing goals that bring you true happiness and peace.

Go out have a walk to keep in touch with nature. Jogging helps to boost serotonin and endorphin level in our body (happy hormones). Then, try to challenge having all-or-nothing or catastrophe automatic thought by using alternative thought or affirmation such as "I'm a person of worth", "I can do it", and "I'm willing to take challenges".

Statistically, maybe 1 in 10 workers are clinically depressed, so you are not alone. I would suggest visiting a healthcare professional for a medical diagnosis. If anti-depressant drugs are prescribed then to take all medications. Be honest with your manager or supervisor, so they are aware of the situation. They are likely trained or prepared to deal with depression in the workplace.

If you have any money, it might be good to put a portion you can afford towards seeing a mental health doctor. Even one session could give you techniques to deal with your depression. Depression hits you in your weak spot. Some may feel like they can't do anything, not even wake up on time. Search for help in your family or maybe your friends are able to help you out a bit, help you with your household or help you apply for a job, if you want/can work. Do your best. Accept your limits, don't beat yourself up over past failures. Try to take one step after another.
