Always have a backup! Explore other opportunities in different fields, or take a year off for self-study. There are always internships available, or you could take classes for no credit (auditing). Expand your network, pad up your applications for the next opportunity to apply!

The beauty is that there are no rules and it's all up to you! You decide what you "should" and "should not" do. You decide if getting into medical school is as much of a brick wall as the question implies. You decide what other options are out there: in the whole world of possibilities! Choose a new venture, a passion, a different science, or a different medical field, keep going and knocking down those mountains!

There could be two approaches that can decide your future course of action. FIRST, start preparing for the next year with better tricks and more hard work. Since you would have the experience of writing the exam you can prepare accordingly, keeping the important topics on your priority to prepare. After such a preparation there are more chances for clearing the exam and get admission. SECOND option could be to get into a related stream like paramedics, alternative medicine, physiotherapy or pharmacy. These streams would help you to be in the medical profession and pursue your career in the same field.

You first need to wear out all your possibilities. Have you tried other schools, was it your first try? If you have tried different options on different occasions and the result is the same then it is time to change the focus. You need to evaluate what really made you want to study medicine, is it helping people, is it the environment? After this, you need to evaluate other options that could help you get the same objective, choosing a different career where you could also help someone or working in a hospital with another profession.
