Homeschooling varies greatly, depending on the student and the teacher, as well as the student's age.
As someone who was homeschooled from kindergarten through grade 9, and then went to regular school for grades 10-12, I can say that they feel very different.
Simply put, homeschooling can feel safer than "regular" school. That said, it doesn't push you out of your comfort zone in the same way. Homeschooled students generally have to show a lot more initiative to get the same opportunities that their peers at other schools do. E.g. sports, co-ops, clubs, volunteering, science fairs, etc.
The differences between homeschooling and traditional school create pros and. cons that are often related. For example, a homeschool student interacts with far fewer peers. Pro: risk of bullying is greatly reduced. Con: fewer opportunities to make friends, and learn from others' diversity.
Overall, done right, homeschooling can be incredibly rewarding. It doesn't have to feel lonely or boring. In fact, the increased flexibility in class schedule often makes it more exciting than the 8:00am-3:00pm grind, or whatever it is that kids are doing these days.
