It’s not possible to force sleep to happen. You have to allow it to happen on its own and the best way is to simply relax. Lie down, close your eyes and fully relax your body so there is no tension.

The more you think about it, the more you will put pressure on your body to sleep. If you relax, you will find that you sleep a lot easier.

that is because when you focus and think too hard about falling asleep, you are actually making your brain work more, making you more awake. The more you make your brain work the more awake you become, try to wonder about different stuff without thinking or worrying too much and you'll fall asleep :)

It's probably harder to fall asleep simply because you are thinking about doing so. You aren't concentrated on relaxation.

It's harder to fall asleep because the more you focus on something, the more active your brain becomes more active than when you're not focused on anything, and that's what keeps you awake. :]

Falling asleep: first slowly and all at once. So.. don't focus on falling asleep! Try just to relax, breath deep and start imagine beautiful things like you want your dreams to be.

Probably because you are concentrating so hard on doing something - that your brain is working on concentrating rather than relaxing...

Because thinking about sleep is not a relaxing thought and you may be stressing yourself. It can be counter-productive to force yourself to sleep as sleep is a natural thing (most of the time). Try setting a time and place for sleep. Also a routine before sleeping. With that you can condition yourself that you are ready to sleep without too much thoughts about it. Good luck and sweet dreams.

Because to sleep you must clear your mind and if you are focused on sleeping your mind is not clear.
