You could possibly have a sleeping disorder. They're pretty common, and it's nothing to be worried about. Try talking to your local doctor about your sleeping issues. Or, you could try an "Over-the-Counter" medication called, "Melatonin." Although, I would defiantly ask your doctor before trying this.

Based on my personal experience, if I consistently wake up at 3am every single night, I would think it's because of stress. Sometimes when we have a lot on our mind, we don't get enough sleep, and sometimes wake up multiple times throughout the night. If you find it's being VERY constant, you might want to visit your family doctor!!

I wake up at 3am when I drink too much caffeine late in the day or do cardio in the evening. Other times I'm awake at 3am is when I'm feeling anxious about my relationships or deadlines and money issues.

I find that when I'm waking up in the middle of the night or even when I have trouble sleeping it's because something is bothering me and I haven't given myself time to work it out. When that happens the most helpful thing for me has been to write it down. Write down what I'm thinking and feeling. Usually that helps me have a better nights sleep.

Possibly could be due to unresolved stress/anxiety that was not dealt with before bed. Maybe journal before bed to get all of these thoughts off your chest before sleeping.
