good question... could be to pee? could be because a mosquito is trying to have dinner? because your companion in bed is snorring? could be because you had a nightmare? or perhaps your inner clock is trying to tell you that is the moment to wake up on take action... write, sing, paint, talk, enjoy your being, listen, speak... who knows? only you :-)

Could depend on when you go to sleep, your sleep hygiene, or any of the medications you're currently taking. If this is a recurring thing, and it's preventing you from ever getting a good night's rest, I'd suggest speaking with your primary care provider.

There could be several different explanations why you wake up at 3am.Some people..like me..run on the sun light hours..early to bed & early to rise..maybe your body is telling you the same thing..it wants to be up with the sunrise..3am is a little early to be up though..also if you live in an apadtment building it could be neighbors periodically making noise to and its waking you up...hopefully you are able to fall back asleep easily & have a good nights sleep.

This could depend on many things. Make sure you are going to bed at a proper time; not too early, not too late. Try not to drink or eat an hour before bed. Use the restroom before you lay down. Also, turning off any distractions (tv, lights, music) can help you earn a more solid sleep session.

It could be that something is troubling you subconsciously? Are you having enough sleep? Napping or sleeping during the day can cause you to wake up durimg the night: Body feels rested and signals you to wake up. Maybe you should stop exercising before sleep? There are always outer factors like rowdy neighbors, appliances and such. If this starts to happen more often, dear questioner, seek professional aid.

There could be a number of reasons to wake up at 3 am and you can find that difference in how you wake up. Do you wake up rested? Then maybe you've already had enough sleep. Are you tired? Then maybe you were just in your so called REM cycle (lighter sleep) and a light disturbance woke you up. And this is taking out other things like f.e. medication use/ caffeine use.
