When I wake up to early it could be because I've had a bad sleep. As a person it could be because subconsciously you're worried about something and need to clear your head before sleeping. Your body may be uncomfortable in the way you're sleeping, i.e cold or to hot. To help with these issues you could try to relax your body before sleep by writing your thoughts down or having a warm drink before bed.

It is completely natural to wake early, just as it is to be an evening person. This can sometimes occur due to anxiety or anticipation about the day to come. I know that when I am aware of a need to be up earlier than normal, I overcompensate occasionally by waking up too early. An example, is me having a meeting on a Saturday morning, my usual schedule would be Monday to Friday, waking up at 7am, then having lie ins on the weekend, waking up around 11am. On these meeting days I must wake up at 6:30am. The night before, I prepare my things, and during this time, my subconscious decides that I will become focussed on waking up on time, and as a result, I may have disturbed sleep, maybe waking at 4am, and then 5am. Think of it in the way you'd expect on the night before christmas, your birthday, or an important exam. High arousal, whether that be excitement or anxiety, you will be almost too ready to wake up, so will wake up too early. Alternatively, you may have too much light or noise in your room, or go to sleep too early. For these may I suggest you have curtains or sleep facing away from light sources. Noise is more difficult, maybe consider not having alarms that go off periodically from an early hour- if you need to set it, maybe have it go off every 15 minutes from 7am as opposed to on the hour every hour from 4am for example. Your body does not need too much sleep, so will wake up when ready, maybe consider going to bed later, maybe using more energy exercising and such, and go to bed when you feel sleepy, or are yawning more frequently.

You may have sort of ruined the usual sleep pattern, slept too much or too early. I am no professional, but I was required to have my thyroid checked when I complained about it multiple times. Apparently, the thyroid may have something to do with dealing with temperatures. Not just the usual "I sleep better in a cool environment than a hot or cold one." Or if in case it IS the usual one, you might want to try experimenting on not just which temperature you feel more comfortable in for longer periods of time, but other conditions as well. Do you wake up because you need to go to the bathroom? It happens when you drink lots before bed, and when the temperature is cold, our bodies don't sweat, but rather release the liquid along with toxins by going to the bathroom. I may just be bad timing... Or...remember how we used to sleep as early as 9 when we were kids? It may very from person to person, however I remember reading that we need 8 hours of sleep -with sleep being best rest. Some people just sleep shorter lengths as they grow older. If that's the case, you might want to adjust the time you sleep. Or you might be a light-sleeper, and something occurs at that exactly that time everyday that wakes you up. And once you wake up, you don't remember what it is. But it CAN reach deep into your sleep, even through the form of dreams sometimes (such as when the brain tries to prevent someone from going to the bathroom while sleeping with dreams/nightmares). The above happens to me at times with the crazy roosters all around the neighborhood. They seem to cry out every other hour... as if they were alarms going off in different places. If you slept with certain uncomfortable conditions such as, too cold, or falling asleep while wearing tight outfits, feeling irritated because you haven't eaten, or irritated and itchy because you were too tired to take a shower, or even just having fallen asleep with the lights on and it hurts your eyes behind the eyelids...Those can really wake you up for some pretty good reasons... And don't forget sleeping in uncomfortable positions or prolonged ones that numb your muscles by having slept on them.... Sometimes, I wake up because I am sleeping "too well" when I am forgetting something like a projects that needs to be passed tomorrow, "Did my brother come home safely yet?", "Did I remember to lock all the doors...?" , or other such worries. The last things that they might be -but I'm hoping are not.... would be night terrors or insomnia... That's about all I can think of right now. Sorry if my explanation seems kind of scattered... I hope you sort it out, if it's causing you problems.

I find that it can sometimes be due to sleeping to much, even if one feels the need to as a result of feeling drained from stress or low mood during the day.
