A lot of hormonal changes occur every month when you have [or sometimes not have] your period. Feelings of unease, restlessness, nausea, headaches, backaches, etc are symptoms that often accompany periods. However, you shouldn't worry too much about it--it's only natural for something like that to happen when you are shedding all that blood in such a short amount of time!
But if your problem persists and is hampering your everyday activities too much, you can visit your gynecologist or general physician to talk about the sleeplessness and maybe get some medicines prescribed.

perhaps your hormone level influences your sleep, or you are feeling stressed. It's also possible that in this period there are some thoughts that persist and don't allow you to fall asleep.

As you go through the cycle your metabolism can change a little - if not the pain of the muscle movements themselves. It could be that you are too warm or too cold, possibly feeling a bit more anxious, or just a little bit more uncomfortable than usual.
