Changes in hormone levels can affect your sleep cycle, making you more or less awake at different times when your body is at different stages in your cycle. Additionally, factors such as pre-menstrual cramping and emotional stress may make it more difficult to get to sleep, and may wake you up after you've managed it. Try having a soothing hot drink before you go to bed (ideally without sugar) and sleep in a room that's not too warm or too cold, as you're likely to feel temperature changes more acutely when you're on or near you period.
