I often feel like I have to be on guard at night, so I am more alert at that time. When the sun rises I begin to relax more because with the light, it feels safer, as though I don't have to keep my eyes and ears peeled for anything dangerous. This is a common trait of people who have experienced trauma in their lives.

It's called Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome (DSPS), most people go through it in their teens and some like me didn't grow out of it .. a good sleep clinic is worth its weight in counted sheep. The first thing they do at a clinic is establish what your bodies sleep cycle is .. mine was 4 am to 12 pm: a lovely 8 hour sleep, AT THE WRING TIME OF DAY. of course I was up at 7 each day and feeling horrible for it. But gradually I moved it back 1/2 hour at a time over a month, making sure I get some morning sunlight, that's the right type of light your body needs to start resetting your clock No drugs, no drama just a little knowledge on what the sleep cycle is and gently bringing it back to normal. I recommend seeing a sleep specialist. I went for years with this problem and now I sleep 11 pm to 7.30 am like a programmed robot.

I am a night person. I think it's because I am scared of the dark. I am awake during the night and sleep during the day. I found a job working nights and have adjusted my life to being up at night. There is nothing wrong with being up at night.

If you are feeling stressed from you daily life you may want to find a form of escapism, in this case sleeping. It can be due to a culmination of potential anxiety and lack of sleep during the night.

It could be anxiety, I once experienced that. When everyone in my house hold was asleep my mind would go crazy and wouldn't turn off. I think during the day is more comforting time to sleep because you know they're people around you, the noise is comforting.

The person is unable to fall asleep until the wee hours, typically somewhere between 2 am and 6am, and sleeps correspondingly longer in the daytime, often well into the afternoon.
