Usually when the heart speeds up and begins racing, other internal organs kind of speed or slow to allow for exercise. Once exercise has stopped it may take a while for our body, and mind, to stop racing and allow us some good quality exhaustion.

Trouble sleeping after exercise is mainly caused by the increased levels of adrenaline after a workout. Exercise causing adrenaline to run through your body. Adrenaline is a rush of energy. When you have a lot of energy, your body has a hard time relaxing quickly. When the body is not relaxed, it's difficult to fall asleep. Many suggest doing exercise in the morning or earlier in the day. Others say it's best not to do exercise a half hour before going to bed.
